Three Families with Teenagers

I am looking for a beachfront (not beach view) for three families with high schoolers for spring break 2007 (1st week in April). We don't necessarily want to be in the spring break action, but on the beach, with a roomy condo and pool. Also, other than the usual water activities is there any nightlife for teens that don't involve alcohol?

I would advise not staying anywhere near the Radisson. That is where the hub of spring break activities were happening. You can check the South Padre websites to see when the majority of the activities will be ending.

Spring Break (college spring break) is the only time that South Padre Island has nightlife, day life or any life! The College breaks were packed up and moved out by March 30. So, April 2008 on South Padre was boring for teenagers! Just returned from 6 days with three 17 yr old boys. S. Padre has a great location...water, sand, sun but that is about it. We felt like we stepped back in time to the 1980s. In fact, several shop owners and a taxi driver told us that business there has been drastically reduced in the last 10 years and most significantly in the past two years. It shows too. The entire island needs a face lift. There are hundreds of condo rentals on the beach, most look 25 years old. There are a handful of hotels on the beach as well. If you go any other time besides the 4 weeks of College Spring Break, you should have the place to yourself! As for fun without alcohol...our boys spent all day in the water and at night they roamed around, fence-hopping into all of the different hot tubs at each resort. No harm done. They met a total of 8 high school kids the entire week. My advice: go to Florida or Mexico for high school Spring Break!
