Recreational activities in or around Lake Waco?

I m planning a trip to visit cousins over Memorial weekend. This will be my first trip to Waco. I'm wondering what recreational activities are available in or around Lake Waco...kayaking, picnic, camping?

Our party consists of a 10-year old child and four adults.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your help!

Here are links for the four camping areas and the Lake Waco Marina:

Will you have water craft? Usually there are boats (sail and motor) out on the lake with Jet Skis and the like. I've never seen a kayak out there (not to say they aren't there), but there is lots of kayaking on the Brazos River.

Check out Cameron Park. There is lots to do there also, and it is much more shaded than Lake Waco. :)

Hey, poodleone! :D Not quite as victorious as we would have liked this year, but we're still proud of how well the girls did. They were really a special bunch.

And just to make this post not-quite-so-off-topic... Carmel C, are you interested in any recommendations for outdoor water-related activities only? Since you are visiting relatives, I refrained from recommending things that they'd know about (such as the zoo, the Mayborn Museum, the Dr. Pepper Museum, etc.) Do you have any particular interests?

Thanks so much for the suggestions. The cousin I'm visiting recently moved to the area, so she's not familiar with the usual things a resident might be. I looked in the "Things to do" section before I posted here. There isn't much said about Lake Waco and we will not have our own watercraft, so I was wondering if there are any canoes, kayaks, and the like for hourly rentals. The mammoth site looks very interesting, as does Cameron Park :-)

Oh, okay. I didn't realize your cousin wasn't very familiar with the area. Here is a rather eclectic mix of things to do, but one of them might strike your fancy.

The already mentioned Waco Mammoth Site: waco-texas.com/cms-waco-mammoth/page.aspx…

The Texas Sports Hall of Fame: http://tshof.org/home/

The Mayborn Museum (fun for kids and adults alike): http://www.baylor.edu/mayborn/

The Dr. Pepper Museum (Dr. Pepper was invented in Waco): http://www.drpeppermuseum.com/

The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum: http://www.texasranger.org/

Hawaiian Falls Water Park: http://hfalls.com/waco/

Barefoot Ski Ranch: http://www.barefootskiranch.com/ and the affiliated BSR Cable Park: http://www.bsrcablepark.com/ (although Mudquest is there that weekend - http://www.mudquestrun.com/)

And an ABSOLUTE MUST DO - Cameron Park Zoo: http://www.cameronparkzoo.com/

I don't know of any places where you can rent water craft, but I'll ask around (I'm not a big water sports person).

ETA: I just realized you were asking about canoes and kayaks and not jetskis or boats. Oops. http://geared.shutterfly.com/

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. My cousins and I ended up spending a day in Austin, so that took away a day of sightseeing in Waco. I only got to enjoy the MLK Park, Cameron Park Zoo, and the Waco Mammoth Sites, but I expect to be back in the area again for another visit, so I'll check out the rest on the list.
