help with planning couple of days please

Going to MV from flagstaff, leaving flagstaff after breakfast. Staying at the view hotel over night.

Question.

Do we book tour in MV for the day we arrive? Or the next day before we leave for a stay at winslow

Tour we have chosen is with monument valley safari, times cud be 9am, 11am, 1pm or 3pm

Whats it like driving from MV to Winslow in the dark? Please advise if you can.

Flagstaff to Monument Valley is about 180 miles which is 3 hours drive. I would pick the 3:00 PM tour to be on the safe side. Plus, you have a better chance to be there near sunset.

MV to Winslow is about 200 miles. That's 3-plus hours in the dark. It will be 2 lane blacktop through remote lands. I don't like driving those roads at night because I worry about the driver of the car coming at me will fall asleep.

Agree with Danny. Don't drive to Winslow in the dark with wildlife on the road. It will really be dark out there. Last part on I40 is ok though.

Thanks guys what we were thinking was....

Leave flagstaff approx 9am

Once at MV and before checking into hotel, we could do the walk thats available without needing a guide. Then check in. Watch the sunset from room. Then dinner and sleep

Next day up to see sun rise. Breakfast and guided tour at 11am? Which is 3.5 hours.

Then make our way to Winslow?

Thoughts???

I'd go earlier than 11am. Sun will lower and more spectacular imo.

Take the 9AM back country tour. Don't drive at night.

Any particular reason to got to Winslow?

The next town over, Holbrook, has the Wigwam Motel. http://www.galerie-kokopelli.com/wigwam/

Plus you walk to the end of the block for a fat juicy steak at an excellent western steakhouse.

Both of you make me hit the books and figure out what La Posada is. I only go to Winslow because Mrs. DS always likes: "standing on the corner."

Danny the history of and at La Posada is fascinating. The restoration is remarkable, including the Turquoise Room restaurant.
