Guide in our car

Hi folks

We're at The View for a couple of nights in August and would like a guided tour "off the beaten track". Can we hire a guide to come with us in our car [full size SUV rental] or is it best to go for a tour in their vehicle? Any tips?

Thanks for your time

Use their vehicle and take one of the back country tours. The road there is really in deplorable condition and you will void your rental contract if you drive the vehicle on it, which means that if anything is damaged you are liable for all the related costs. Anything off that road would be even worse for the rental car. The Navajo guides use trucks and are used to driving them on the road. Nothing to be gained by using your own vehicle except risk. If you want a private tour, meaning just you and no other people, check websites and see if that's possible, and what the cost would be, during your visit.

Go in their vehicle. Rental vehicles are prohibited by contract.
