Family travelling Salt Lake City to Las Vega ...first time

We are travelling from SLC to LV middle of June. Do you recommend travelling via car and stopping at motels or hiring a motorhome. Haven't had much luck in one way hire of motorhome. Any suggested itinerary?

Thanks for any comments.

That's not a very long trip, only six hours if you push it, seven if you stop. If you do want to stay, Cedar City would be a decent stopover with lots of hotel choices.

We're never going to recommend a mobile road block; hire a care and stay in motels or even better B&B's.

How long have you got? Is it straight through (like T&C says 6 or 7 hours if you just want to get there) or is it many days? There's many wonderful itinerary opportunities if you've got a few days for the trip. But before anyone can help, how long and some more details on your family would help.

Thanks for your help so far, we have allowed 5 days. Wanted to see as much as we could without being too rushed. With 3 teenage boys, they may become a bit bored. Any motels or B&B's you would recommend? I have never used a forum before....silly me this is such a good way to find out answers from people who have been there and done that.

With 5 days, I'd do the following

1. Salt Lake City to Torrey. Check out Capitol Reef NP

2. Torrey to Bryce via www.scenicbyway12.com

3. Bryce and to Zion in the afternoon

4. All day for Zion NP

5. Zion to Las Vegas via Valley of Fire SP and Lake Mead.

Toorey has many options; I;d try Austin's Chuckwagon, or Best Western Capitol Reef.

In Bryce maybe try Ruby's Inn and BW Grand first.

In Zion Desert Pearl Inn but many more excellent places to stay.

Maybe check TA review for that:

Five days is good, unfortunately not enough to detour as far as Moab, but good for the trip from SLC to LV.

Tet's given you a good outline. Look for accommodation in Torrey, Boulder, Bryce, Srpingdale, & St George. The main places to stop and experience this time being Capitol Reef NP, scenic route byway 12, Bryce Canyon NP, & Zion NP. And as Tet says on the way down to LV, Valley of Fire & Lake Mead.

Places we can recommend on this route;

Boulder Mountain Lodge in Boulder

Canyon Vista B&B in Springdale

Cottonwood Meadow Lodge near Bryce

Not recommended;

Wonderland Inn in Torrey

Circle D in Escalante

Not much of a list either way when you see what there is to offer along the way.

What does that mean?

I suspect that all RVers (of which there are *millions* in the USA) would be quite insulted if that comment means what I think it does . . .

I was wondering how long it would be until half-brit found that comment :)

Yes, there's a good chance it means exactly what you think it means. I know my mother the RV'er is insulted every time I say it.
