Hole in the Wall type bar

Heading to Park City Jan 30th with a crew of 6 other 35ish guys. We're from Kentucky, which makes us the opposite of fancy spa/celebrity/look at my fancy clothes type of guys. We like well broken in bars/pubs/grills where theirs sports or ski bloopers on a tv and you can talk to folks rather than hear thump-thump-thump. We love trying new mtns, but have not really found apres ski we like since the last time we went to Whitefish Montana. Specifically the Bierstube on the mtn and the Bulldog and Great Northern Bar in town. If you've been to Jackson, we loved Bubba's for breakfast. We're staying right in the middle of Main St. We'll be going to Snowbird for a day. Old ski bum style I guess is what I'm after. Appreciate suggestions on where we might find it.

I'm sure you will enjoy No Name right on Main Street.

There are no hole the wall bars in Park City but No Name is a great locals place.

You will enjoy the place.

On the way back from from Snowbird, stop at Cotton Bottom--right of exit 6200. In stead of going right towards the Canyons, go right to the 1st stop light about 100 yards. Kiddy corner from Tuscany.

Voted best garlic burger in Utah.

The Scene

This is no ordinary beer joint. The ubiquitous Bugs Bunny image--on faded signs, in neon lights and as stuffed toy rabbits tucked above the bar--tells you whose cotton bottom gave this longtime oasis its name. But that's the only thing stuffy about this popular watering hole, where everyone seems like a regular. Feel free to join in on a game of pool or toss some darts.

The Food

Best known for the garlic burger, the Cotton Bottom also serves cheese dogs, Malibu chicken and grilled ham and cheese, all accompanied with salty chips and savory pickles--perfect for the Coors and Wasatch on tap. Tomatoes, shredded lettuce and onions balance the half-pound garlic burger, all housed in a large wedge of sourdough. The grilled ham and cheese is a hefty creation, with sharp flavors from good ham

Triple ditto on the Cotton Bottom suggestion. Don't be afraid when you see it, it just *looks* like a dive. :o)

When/if you ski PCMR, stop by the Corner Store in the base area, very broken in and the sort of atmosphere you note. On Main St., aside from the No Name, you might check out Doolans on lower Main (sports bar) or O'Shucks, although the music in Shucks can be a bit loud.

Regretably, there are few of those places here in Utah so we tend to treasure them.

The old Club and Alamo in Park City fit the bill. They're gone but the No Name is probably close. It's on Main Street. Nearby is Ah Shucks, which is also close. Davanza's, just off Main, is also close.

If you go up to Snowbasin, checkout the Shooting Star in Huntsville. That's definitely in the category you're looking for. Another place we like between Park City and Snowbasin is Taggart's in Taggart, near Morgan on I-84.

The only real place we've found in the entire state in or 20 years that TRULY fits what you're looking for is Ray's Tavern in Green River, but that's nowhere near here.

Whitefish is great. You can find everything from mice races to shooter chairs, etc.

While we may not have that, we have great skiing and riding and you'll have a fabulous time.

Yes, do stop at Cotton Bottom on your way back from Snowbird.

Thanks for the suggestions! No Name sounds like it has potential. Cotton Bottoms sounds quirky, we'll give that a shot. In all honesty we've learned to expect a short supply of our kind of places at ski resorts. We'll have a good time regardless. Last 2 trips (Steamboat and Jackson Hole) we've struggled to find a bar we could call "home". I've been to Utah in the summer and I'm a bit worried about the "membership" thing with this crew, but they've all been warned. In the end it's about the mountains.

Dont worry about the membership thing. It is what it is and you have to deal with it. Our Governor is working on trying to get rid of it but there is this religious entity that tends to poke their nose in everything to do with politics called the LDS Church. The sepeartion between Church and State in Utah is borderline. But by no means has it stopped anyone from having a good time where ever watering hole you land in.

Last year while in Park City we stumbled into O Shucks, awesome bar near the No Name Saloon. They have giant beers and peanuts in the shell. Food not great, but beer selection is good. Terrific hole in the wall place, so add it to your list!
