Trying to decide between Park City,Canyons or Deer Valley!

We've been going to Vail, CO for skiing for the last five years, this year we would like to try out Utah.We cannot figure out where to go and where to stay. We have two children so we would like to walk to the slopes, but we have a tight budget! so, we need insider information! We are planning to go at the second week of March 2014. Any recommendations are highly appreciated! Thanks!

I would suggest PC Peaks hotel. The bus stops right at the front door, buffet breakfast included. The bus will take you everywhere you want to go.

I prefer to ski deer valley, no boarders, better food and grooming. PCMR will have more stuff to keep your kids busy, snow coaster, etc. I am not a fan of the canyons. It's spread out and you have to ride an slow moving open gondola to the base your cold by the time you get to the base.

Welcome to Utah. Nice to be just 40 minutes from the airport. Beauty of Park City is you don't HAVE to make a decision, ski all three. Tight budget and walking to slopes don't go that well together. But, as wesheltonj noted, the bus system is great.

If you do want to stay relatively slopeside, Canyons is best place to do it. Grand Summit, Sundial and other hotels right in base area offer many options. You can also stay downtown (Marriott Summit Watch) and take town lift to PCMR or easy bus to DV or Canyons.

Have fun.

We weren't there to ski, but recently spent two nights at the Marriott Summit Watch in Park City. Our unit was great--very clean, nicely furnished. We had a full kitchen, which would be nice for a longer stay with kids on a tight budget. The location is great--less than a five minute walk to town lift and lots of restaurants within walking distance.

You don't even have to stay in the Park City area if the hotels are too expensive. You can stay in SLC instead. See my trip report here.

Here's a secret. The parking lot of each resort puts you close to the slopes.

1. If you park at the bottom of the Park City lot next to the First Time lift, you are steps from your car. You take the First Time lift to the top, and take a side trail over to Pay Day.

2. Deer Valley has free shuttles from the parking lot to the base area.

3. The Canyons has the standing gondola taking people from the parking lot to the base.

Deer Valley has the best skiing, no snowboarding allowed. The lifts have foot rests and the mountain has 6 peaks, it's spread out and really nice. This would be the equivalent to skiing out in Vail in CO.

Park City has 3 main areas, on one side is a long Home Run trail that's a nice easy green and Pay Day, a signature Blue. On the other side of the mountain are mostly blues. And another area is kinda hidden way off to the left side of the map with some advanced blues and blacks. They do have an alpine roller coaster which is fun to try.

The Canyons seems more advanced, but they do have some lifts that have a canopy on them. This mountain is also spread out, a run down these slopes seems to go sideways across the mountains instead of straight down. Good idea to take rest breaks half way down the slope.

Tough choice on which place to visit, but they're all great in their own way. You'll have to read the reviews on TA and decide.
