places to eat dinner in Bennington?

We'll be staying one night in Bennington at the end of July and are looking for suggestions on a place (non-chain) to eat dinner. We've eaten at some of the spots on Main St. before and been a little underwhelmed--though it has been a few years since we were there, so would welcome suggestions. Have also scoped out a place called Pangaea in North Bennington--does anyone know about it?

Pangaea is the local gourmet restaurant. They also have a less formal "Lounge" with a more limited menu next door. If the weather is good and you enjoy the outdoors, I suggest you book a reservation ahead of time at the Lounge and request seating on the back deck, it is quite nice.

A newer place on Main St. in Bennington is under the same ownership as Pangaea: Allegro.

The menus for both places can be found on their website: http://vermontfinedining.com/.

Other, less gourmet places that are very popular locally are Kevin and Mike's in N. Benn., and Carmody's on Main St. in Bennington.

Very up-scale and very good is the Four Chimney's in Old Bennington. There is also Hunter's American Grill on Harwood Hill, which some people love and others find to be an OK steak house, but it does have a killer view. I would also recomend dinner at the Mount Anthony Country Club.
