Just returned from a wonderful long weekend in Stowe with my husband.
We happened to be there during the below zero weather, but we came prepared and it never stopped us from anything we wanted to do. We did end up buying different gloves at the Nordic Barn (super helpful) and new Turtle Fur (Vermont based) hats to keep us even warmer. We stayed at the Inn at Seven Springs (refer to review for details) and would highly recommend it. We chose the area for the scenery and snowshoe trails available. We we're not disappointed. The restaurants we ate at were Hen in the Woods, Blue Moon Cafe, and Michael's on the Hill. I would rate Hen in the Woods the highest in all categories, it's a don't miss! Michael's was very good and Blue Moon was good. The first day we snowshoed Moss Glen Falls which was easy with areas of short, moderate climbs that ends at a beautiful waterfall, framed by frozen cascades. The second day we did Sterling Gorge in the morning (easy and rewarding). Later that afternoon, we enjoyed the Wiessner Woods trails. On The third day we ventured out to Bingham Falls, recommended by Nordic Barn. It was a beautiful, winding trail that hugs the river and has waterfalls along the way.
Overall, it was a wonderful trip and I would recommend the area.
