Segway tour @ Smugglers' Notch AND alphine slide at Stowe

Has anyone tried the Segway tour at Sumugglers' Notch?

What about the Alphine slide at Stowe Resort?

Would appreciate if we can get some comments about these 2 activities here.

(my kids are 13 and 15)

Thanks A LOT.

The alpine slide is fun, though it;s not particularly long or exciting. It might be a bit tame for the 15 yr old. It's been years (decades actually) since I rode it, so perhaps others can comment in case it's been extended or upgraded since the mid-late 80s.

Unfortunately, your kids are in that age group that is underserved. The alpine slide is fun once. But after that, no big deal. Is it worth basing a vacation around, probably not. However, there is the canopy tours, ArborTrek on the Smuggs side. Very cool!

I have done several Segway tours and the one at Smuggs is good. There is a beginner tour that is on hard pack roads and trails and a more advanced section on trails. The trails make the Segways more interesting.

For teens and tweens, I recommend checking out ArborTrek Canopy Adventures at Smugglers' Notch, located just ten minutes from Stowe Mountain Lodge and twenty minutes from downtown Stowe. They have a zip line canopy tour which has been open for three years and are opening a new treetop obstacle course and climbing adventure in late June 2013. The treetop obstacle course will have 50 elements including bridges, rope swings, cargo nets, balance beams, zip lines, and more. The climbing adventure includes artificial rock walls, tree climbing, and a series of vertical obstacles. Children 8 years and older can participate in all of the activities, although some require them to be accompanied by an adult. There are options this summer for families with children as young as four years.

For teens, also check out some of the local hikes and water holes. There are great places to explore. There is also a Via Ferrata course in Bakersfield which is really cool. Look up Peak Expeditions.

For local hikes, driving up the toll road and letting the kids scramble on the rugged trails at the top of Mt Mansfield is a fun activity. Get a trail map, since you need to stay on the trails and avoid stepping on the fragile vegetation. The Lake View trail is a fav - a rigged little 1/2 mile loop with spectacular views and quite a bit of scrambling.

Renting bikes or roller blades and doing the Stowe rec path is another great activity for teens or families.
