A day in Wilmington, VT

Hi,

We are a group of 4 families - 8 adults and 6 kids aged 0-12. We rented a vacation home in West Dover for the 4th July weekend (arrival Thursday 3-Jul night, departure Sunday 6-Jul). Essentially we will be there for 3 nights and 2 days.

We plan to do some easy outdoor activities on one of the days. Given the group composition, we cannot be very adventurous. Maybe some easy trails (1 mile or less), boating or cruises, a scenic drive, a picnic in a park or a scenic area, or visiting some attraction.

Can someone give us suggestions on how to spend this day?

The other day we plan to take it easy - stay in the house, grill, play with the kids, watch a movie etc.

Thanks,

Vivek

A day at a state park may offer a variety of activities for a group like yours. These ones are nearby.

Woodford has boat rentals, a beach area, and hiking trails. Might be a good option.

Thanks a lot. The Woodford State Park sounds great.

You could look through here and see if there are any Independence Day celebrations nearby that sound appealing:

Stop in at the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce to look at the map of all the walking trails in the area.

Woodford State Park is small but lovely. Bring bug stuff.

There is also the new Valley Trail (doververmont.com/sites/…20Map_2.pdf) which is closer to you, and boat tours and rentals at Harriman Reservoir. Have a great time and don't forget to go to Dot's!

I second Dot's for breakfast. While you're in downtown Wilmington, there are lots of cute shops you can walk to. Just head West on Main Street from Dot's (that's where you'll find the Chamber of Commerce for trail maps). In Dover, head to Snow Mountain Market for groceries and all your grilling needs. They also have box lunches you can pick up for a picnic or to take on a hike.
