Best Hotel for Visit to Hampton University

My daughter will be attending Hampton University in the Fall, and we are attempting to visit in April for an extended weekend.

We will fly in to Norfolk-- However, we will not be renting a car.

What are the best places to stay that are convenient from getting to and from the University and are within walking-taxi distance from shops and food?

The closest hotel to campus is the Hampton Marina Hotel wwww.hamptonmarinahotel.com (formerly a Radisson). It is located 1/2 mile from the front entrance of the HU campus in downtown Hampton with its variety of attractions and restaurants.

If you stay in that hotel, you'll be in old downtown Hampton which is a good thing - lots of neat little shops and good places to eat. Check www.downtownhampton.com.

You'll need a taxi from the Norfolk airport to Hampton - not sure of the rate, but you can check "Ground Transportation" at the airport website.
