Randolph College - Where to stay and go

We'll be visiting Lynchburg in March for a lax game at Randolph. We'll be visiting friends in town too. We'll have our 18 year old son with us and we like to walk around, see sites, go to local restaurants and taverns. Looked at TA hotel rankings. Where is the best place to stay to access Randolph and areas with shops and restaurants? Thanks!

Take a look at The Residence Bed and Breakfast. They have a nice informative website you can look up. The house is from the early 1900s. Beautiful and a nice couple owns it. The house used to be the home of the then Randolph Macon Womens College presidents. Therefore, all their important guests stayed there as well...Elizabeth Taylor, Gerald Ford, Pearl Buck and so on. Lots of historic neighborhoods surrounding, the College art gallery, trails, a nice park along the James River behind the Rivermont historic mansions. 3 or 4 restaurants within walking distance and several with a very short drive to downtown Lynchburg.

Thanks very much! What do you know about the Craddock Terry Hotel? Pics look good and has good reviews.

Josh at the front desk is fabulous. I think he's spending the spring abroad though...a Randolph student. When we stay in Lbg with family we like to eat at Waterstone below Craddock. Rooms are nice, a great reno and repurposing. Some people complain about the train noise. The hotel has something for that...maybe a white noise machine. There are also several restaurants and shops in the general area for you to enjoy.

There are lots of shops along Main St and the streets behind, closer to the James River.

There's a large park and water garden along the downtown section of the James River too.

There seems to always be some festival going on in the warmer months. Don't know March's schedule. The local paper has a list....maybe Thursday or so.

In about mid 1800s Lynchburg was the second wealthiest city in the country. So there were a lot of magnificent mansions built, many remaining from then to early 1900s. There are several historic districts to explore.

You may enjoy some of the Blue Ridge Mountains on your way coming or going.

Yes, we're interested in doing some Blue Ridge Mountain site seeing on our way down. We've never been to the area. I need to do more research but welcome any suggestions. Thank you!
