How are passengers travelling to and from Zamboanga City?

While Zamboanga City is not on my visiting list due to the current, very recent security problems but just as importantly due to the advice of www.smarttraveller.gov.au that it is in the minority of Mindanoan provinces that are 'unsafe', how are prospective passengers travelling in and out of Zamboanga to the Visayas (central islands group) or Luzon (on which Metro Manila is situated?

Both Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific have cancelled their flights as a few rebels are allegedly less than two kilometres from Zamboanga airport.

2Go Ferries used to service Zamboanga once a week but appears not to at present.

This uprising is a major problem for what is almost certainly a growing city. Imagine how much more productive southwest Mindanao's economy would be if all were at peace.

TV DZMM news announced at lunchtime that there were no flights or ferries in or out of Zamboanga City until tomorrow. .

We will find the truth tomorrow from PDI which is a far more reliable news service

This makes all of Mindanao seem less safe as people tend to generalize, coupled with the warnings in Davao last month.

Airline passengers stranded in Zamboanga City can reroute their flights via Pagadian or even Dipolog but it entails long land travel.

On Friday, The Philippine Air Force will use theirC130 Transport Aircraft to fly 3,000 passengers to Cebu on and the passengers will then use the normal Cebu to Manila service.

Dipolog and Pagadian do not have capacity on their normal schedule for an additional 3,000 passengers.

So Zamboanga Airport will be open then as it is where the C130 will land and depart.

It will be providing it is cleared.

Transporting 3,000 people is a considerable logistic problem and it appears that the airport is easier to secure than the port.

They won't need to pay for tickets MH, they paid already.

…inquirer.net/485535/firefight-erupts-as-mnl…

this article was posted just 20 hours ago, saying fighting is happening in a village located less than 2kms from the airport. i hope they can secure not just the airport but also the flight approach to/from the airport.
