Where to go for the best snorkeling in Thailand?

Any recommendations for great snorkeling in Thailand? If you remember the name of where you stayed nearby, that would be very helpful. Thanks!

Ko Surin / Similan islands or Koh Lipe ( all on the Andaman side of Thailand ) Only Koh Lipe easily reachable. Others will require liveaboard or very long boat trips.

The best snorkeling (not diving) in Thailand is Koh Surin or Koh Tao. They're 9/10.

Koh Lipe/Koh Adang, Koh Mook (including Kradan and Ngai), parts of Phuket and the offshore islands around Phuket, are an 8/10.

Koh Rang (near Koh Chang), the Similans, a few places on Koh Phangan, are a 7/10.

All depends on the time of year and weather though so research before you go.

I have snorkelled all over Thailand. The Andaman sea around Krabi is fabulous.I agree that Ko Tao is perfect for snorkeling AND diving x

Graham thank you! It's so hard to plan from afar. I've seen some info that the reefs are good, great, poor! Live aboard snorkel Surin or Similian or both? John Kraden for beach snorkeling? Arriving in and out of Phuket airport - we have almost 2 weeks and are coming to snorkel! Suggested itinerary? Accommodations near beach snorkeling or transport to best snorkeling? Thank you so much

#6 Coral all over Thailand is mostly dead. Some places is 90% dead some places is 30-40% dead. Surin and Tao are both over 50% dead or heavily bleached. The fish don't go anywhere though. Dead coral or live coral it's all the same to them.

I have no experience with liveaboards but they're usually/always for diving. Not really suited to snorkeling.

Best places would depend on time of year you're traveling. Now is a great time of year for Tao. Not so much for anywhere on the Andaman coast.
