You can also fly into the closest city (Trat) then taxi/ferry across to the island. Expensive but by far the most comfortable.

The buses from Ekkamai bus station in Bangkok, at 0745 and 0900 stop at the airport bus station - around 40 minutes later - on their way to Laem Ngop ( ferry pier to Koh Chang ).

There is also a big bus at 07:50 from Entrance 8 on level 1 of the terminal building and minibuses at 1100 & 1400. ( Sometimes 0930 in the High Season )

The buses and minibuses all have aircon. If you are tall then the big bus will have more legroom.

So your choice is more between minibus or big bus and also depends on what time your flight lands.

thanks for your reply

which bus is faster to get to the island? I am under the impression that the big bus seems to be a better option?

The minibuses go a bit faster. The big buses will take about the same time as each other to get to the mainland pier.

The buses from Ekkamai bus station in Bangkok, at 0745 and 0900 - this is the answer to your question. It's hassle free and easy and cheap. Forget the other options. Make sure you get these government 999 buses, if you get another bus it's not hassle-free.

The ones I'm talking about are the big buses. I'm 5 ft 11 and they're fine for me.
