Bangkok to Koh Chang - Bus & minibus update

If you plan on taking the government bus 999 back to Bangkok from Koh Chang, there is now only one service a day from Centrepoint & Ao Thammachat piers, at around 1400.

The good news is that there are more minibus services that leave from Ao Thammachat pier, on the mainland for Ekkamai Bus Station ( 2 mins walk to the BTS (skytrain) station on Sukhumvit Rd) , in the centre of Bangkok. These depart every two hours from 0730 to 1530. Ticket price is 300 Baht.

Coming to Koh Chang from Bangkok there are still two bus 999 services at 0745 & 0945 from Ekkamai. The 0745 bus stops at Ao Thammachat and Centrepoint Pier. The 0945 bus only stops at Centrepoint but will drop people off by the road a couple of Km from Ao Thammachat - if the boat company knows you are on the bus they will pick you up from there.

Minibuses now depart from Ekkamai bus station too, leaving every two hours from 0600 to 1800 and they will drop you off at Ao Thammachat. Ticket price also 300 Baht.

We catch the white van from Victory Monument also 300B. Not everyone's "cup of tea" as they drive fast journey time around 5 hours drop off at the pier.

But thanks for other options Ian

The vans I mention are the new white vans too. The ones from Victory Monument originate at Morchit bus station in north of Bangkok. I think these go every hour. Just had guests use them to come to our place yesterday- they also mentioned the fast drivers, although a bit too fast for their liking.

Hi there

Please could you let me know where in Bangkok we should get the bus to Koh Chang?

We'd like to leave early on Sun 22nd January. We are staying in Bangkok the night before, do you recommend an area to stay that night that is close to where we get the bus?

Thank You

Buses leave from the bus station at Ekkamai , eastern end of Sukhumvit Rd. It is on the skytrain route. So just stay somewhere close to the skytrain and it is easy to get there. ( Dont stay near Khao San Rd or somewhere on the opposite side of Bangkok- as then you have to cross the city centre in a taxi in the rush hour)

Schedules are the same every day. So from Ekkamai big bus is 0745 to Laem Ngop- the mainland pier or minibus at 0600. Maybe earlier from Victory Monument or Morchit bus station and there will probably be a bus to Trat nearer 5am but 6am should be early enough for you.

I think there are Cherdchai buses at 5, 6 & 7am from Ekkamai to Trat.

There is also a 7:30am express bus from the airport main terminal directly to Koh Chang--Klong Son. See http://bussuvarnabhumikohchang.com/ Last year it was 308 baht and included your ferry ticket. So if you stay at the airport, this may be the easiest way to Koh Chang.

Express bus doesnt usually run now. Haven't seen it this High Season yet. I think it is hard to fill the seats.
