Just returned from Nica-16 days, w/ 4 kids.Ask any questions

We just returned from a great vacation traveling 16 days with our 4 kids through southern Nica. San Juan del Sur, Playa Madera, Granada, Olmetepe, Lake Apoyo, Mesaya Market and Mesaya Volcano. Trip advisor has been so helpful, i am happy to answer any questions for you.

What are your top recommendations to do -- with kids (ages 9 and 10) -- in or around Granada? We're headed there in the rainy season, so may have to find things to do inside. Do you recommend going to the Mesaya Market and Volcano? Did you do this on your own or as a tour? Where did you stay? Our wish list includes having a pool, a covered patio where we can be outside and play games or read, yet not get drenched, and preferably be within walking distance of a few restaurants or supers. Would love to hear your thoughts.

TYhe Masaya 'Combo' Tour includes a trip right up to the edge of an active volcano, swim in Laguna de Apoyo, artisans market and more.

You can also do a night tour of one of the craters that is a bat cave!

Also look at a boat ride to Las Isletas, very close to the shore of the lake in Granada, kids should be able to get close to spider monkeys that live on some of the islands.

Patio Malinche has a small pool and is close to restaurants.

Bigger pool at Hotel Granada opposite Guadalupe Church on La Calzada.

Casa Vivaldi has a nice pool and 'covered area' it isnt the best area at night, but taxis are dirt cheap.

Casa Gallo is definteley a good option to rent in Granada. They are about 10 minutes away from the main square and 10 minutes away from La Colonia supermarket in where you will find everything you need for your stay

Hi,

Yes, we were there last month with our four kids. i would highly recommend going to Laguna Apoyo (30-40 minutes from Granada by taxi 10-20 $. it was one of our highlights, an incredibly beautiful pristine crater lake perfect for swimming, kayaking or chilling out. i would stay at San Simian. From there you can take a taxi for a morning or afternoon trip to the mesaya market and volcano-highly recommend both. if you would like recommendations on places to stay in Granada or getting around let me know by email.

Perfect timing! A group of us have rented a home in san Juan del sur and the first question that comes to mind is transporation from the airport. I have heard it is like a 3 hour trip. Any recomendations for transportation to and from the airport? Also, what did you think of the overall safety, did you exchnge your money before going or just use a credit card for everything? If you were to go again is there anything you did not pack that you needed and were unable to easily find? Also, we wanted to bring a few items as gift for the care takers of the house. Any ideas of things we can get here that would be a 'treat' there'? Did you ever buy seafood at the beach and have it cooked up? Did you go to Granada? not sure how far of a trip it is (do you?) it looks like it is a must see. ANY tips of what to/what NOT to do is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Sherri
