Richmond or Newport News?

We are having to use some free airline tickets and are trying to decide on where to go over Thanksgiving week. I know there is alot to see. Will we need to rent a car? We have no problem walking and doing public transportation. Which is the easiest way from the airport to the Omni hotel in either city? We will have 5 days for touring.

Thanks for your response!

You'll definitely need to rent a car in either location. The Omni in NN is slightly closer to the airport than the Omni in Richmond, but if you have a car, the difference is insignificant. They're both very easy to find from the airport.

I would base your choice on what types of things you're looking to do.

The Omni in Newport News offers a shuttle from the Newport News/Williamsburg Airport; however, your best bet would be to rent a car when you arrive. This will allow you to easily explore everything there is to see and do. Thanksgiving is a great time to head this way because of all the holiday events that begin at that time. One is Celebration in Lights, which is a two-mile drive through light display through Newport News Park. You can check out all the events in November/December on www.newport-news.org. If you are planning to stay for five days, Richmond is an easy day trip from Newport News, which is another reason to rent a car.

Just a thought, Richmond is 100 miles (about 2 hours) south of Washington DC. There is always much to visit in DC.

Have fun.
