Which is a better place to stay for 2 days?

We will be visiting the Rheine area in Mid-Oct. From your experience, would you prefer to stay in St. Goar? or Bacharach? Thanks so much.

I have only been to this area once, but I am planning another trip for 2011 with friends. I stayed in Bacharach for two nights and it was just lovely. I did go to St.Goar for the day to see the castle. I liked them both. They are close to each other so you can see both. I will probably return to Bacharach because I like the nearby hiking.

We liked St. Goar as our hotel/restaurant/cafe (Hotel am Markt) was right on the river. It was hypnotic to sit and watch the river traffic while having a glass of wine. Plus we much liked the walk up to the Rheinfels Castle

We also stayed in Bacharach at the Pension am Malerwinkel. The Malerwinkel was itself great as it is tucked into a small ravine. For us the walk upto Stahleck Castle (Youth Hostel) was also nice.

We preferred St. Goar but you really can not lose.
