confused forio with procida !

just realized this ...not good to be on computer

when a little tired..

so can you reach forio easily from ischia ponte

is it by car or boat ?

trying an itinery as follows:

jfk to naples...then onto ferry to ischia from naples.

how long is the boat ride ?

thinking of ischia ponte for 7 days

forio ...5 days

then sorrento...6 days

this is just a preliminary plan..

thinking its easiest to get back to naples

airport from sorrento at the very end.

any opinions on this ??

"so can you reach forio easily from ischia ponte"

on the bus

www.ischiaonline.it/ischia.php…

one bus fron Ischia Ponte to the main station at the port then

a different one to Forio

We took bus line 1 from the port to the area between Lacco Ameno and Forio

"procida didnt look that appealing" almost merits an apology to what's actually one of the Italy's most attractive islands!

Hi again!

The other bits.....

There's no boat service between Ponte and Forio, and to do the trip you'd need to take two buses. The 7 is one of several that would take you from here to Porto, and then there are three services that go on to Forio - perhaps 40/45 minutes in total.

However, when travelling between hotels with baggage - and particularly since your MIL might very well have to stand the entire time - it would be highly advisable to go by taxi. They're not cheap but, while picking up or delivering passengers, they're allowed into many of the streets at times when those are closed to other traffic, which includes the buses!

Hydrofoils take 45/60 minutes to cross from Naples Beverello to Ischia Porto. The ferries, which operate from the nearby Porta di Massa quay, take longer - maybe 90 minutes but cost less (for your party though they may not be such a good idea as only one of them has a lift, and the others all involve clmbing a good number of steps up to the various passenger decks?).

Some of what's here may be of interest/assistance?

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I see that this year MeridianaFly's flights to Naples from JFK were operating only until 11 September - arriving in Naples in the early morning, and leaving at 10:00.

Haven't read of their 2011 plans - although there has been talk in the past, I believe, of them extending their season - but was that the service you were thinking of using?

Certainly it would be a lot easier getting to the airport before 8 AM from Sorrento than from here, and you'd eliminate the very slight (on or prior to 11/9) chance that bad weather that morning might prevent all the vessels from operating - however spending your last night in Naples might mean a less early start?

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

As I mentioned several days ago, there's only one direct crossing from here to Sorrento.

It actually leaves from Ischia Porto at 17:20 each day.... until early November. Not sure how convenient you'd find that, when starting from a hotel in Forio?

Departures fron even Sorrento to the Naples airport can be problematic, if your flight is very early. I considered flying into Naples for my 2007 vacation in Sorrento, but in the end decided not to. All the cheap flights that connected to North America were very early in the mornning. with the times involved, there was not way to get fron Sorrenot to Naples that early using public transport. My only alternatives would have been to overnight in Naples or use an expensive private driver.
