Forio in June

We are so looking forward to out trip to Forio in just over a week. We are staying b and b in a small hotel, but are wondering how much per day we should allow for eating lunch and dinner and the odd trip to Capri and Sorrento. Can anyone help?

Sounds wonderful - but do be warned, the island's very seductive.... we first came for just a day, and have been over in Ischia Ponte, near the Castello, since 2003 !!

For the various organised outings, try having a look through what these people offer:

http://www.ischiasea.com/

.... with this thread containing advice that may help with avoiding some of the common pitfalls - both in restaurants etc, and generally!

tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g187780-i567-k47…

Around the island you'll find a wide range of eateries - from simple beach bars, through to a hotel restaurant that's been awarded 2 Michelin stars...

tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g580212-…

At more ordinary establishments, aside from drinks, I guess that the two of us will usually spend a little under 20 Euro for a light snacky lunch..... and perhaps 40-50 Euro for dinner - rather less if having pizza!

As well as TA's own reviews, you may find this useful....

guidaischiashopping.it/category/ristoranti/…

I'm not sure about 2013, but in previous years they've also published a small printed guide, that's been given away at the ports and elsewhere?

.................

And, if you've not found it already, do also try the island's visitor magazine.... sold in printed form here for about €1.50, or use the topmost "Download" button on this page for a PDF version of June's edition:

ischianews.com/it/…2.html

Hope you'll have a great time - after a fairly miserable spell recently, the weather seems to be on its way back towards what's "normal" for the season!

Peter - that is the most helpful reply I have ever received on a TA forum. Thank you so much. Plenty of information for me to read so we can make the most of our ten days in Forio. I had planned a visit to Sicily this June, but we met an ex-pat who lives in Umbria recently and he said "forget Sicily, try Iscia".

My pleasure - and I trust Ischia will be able to live up to such high praise!

But it has to be said that, at the size of Wales on steroids, Sicily does offer rather more places to see...

Perhaps you might also think about visiting the island of Procida, and maybe Pozzuoli - both of which are covered in this bilingual guide to the highlights of the province of Naples, produced by the local Chamber of Commerce:

Hello Peter! I love your advice and am coming to the Island June 22-26 with my three teen daughters. Any "musts" for us (aside from sitting in the sun and eating good food?!)

Hi there!

I'd suggest first having a look at the island magazine, mentioned at the end of reply #1 !!

The places and things that our visiting friends and family have particularly enjoyed include:

- Castello Aragonese, here at the north-eastern corner,,, in Ischia Ponte

- our neighbouring island, Procida... no direct link from Forio, but only some 15 minutes or so away from the other two ports, Casamicciola or Ischia Porto

- the gardens at La Mortella

- the thermal spas, with Negombo our favourite. If teenagers, the girls should be old enough to access all of the various pools, some of which are quite hot!

negombo.it/pdf/negombo-filo-di-arianna-en.pdf

- exploring the island's towns and villages by bus... all-day tickets cost just €6. At only some 7 miles by 4, you're unlikely to get very lost!

- slightly longer excursions, such as those offered by this company:

Whatever you choose, I trust you'll have a great time!
