We are a family of 4 travelling to Sicily for 10 days in April, flying to Palermo. We would like to spend some time on the South coast as we have visited Sicily several times but not explored that part of the island. We don't drive so rely on public transport.
We are thinking of spending 6 days or so in Sciacca but are wondering whether we will be able to reach nice beaches. Although the sea probably won't be warm enough to swim, the children enjoy the sand and paddling. We can see from other posts that the town beaches in Sciacca are not necessarily ideal, and that places like Capo San Marco and the Turkish steps are not really reachable by public transport.
Any advice as to whether:
(1) the town beaches in Sciacca are enough to keep kids entertained,
(2) there are ways to get to some nicer beaches by public transport/taxi or
(c) there is an alternative place to stay on the South coast which is reachable by public transport from Palermo and which would offer easy access to nice beaches.
We're not just going for the beach, we want to do some sightseeing too, just need to make sure the kids won't be disappointed!
Grateful for any advice.
