Is it possible to travel by bus from Ragusa to Piazza Armerina? I will be traveling on Saturday, April 3, 2010. Thank You.

Welcome to Sicily kgh1963!

Nothing direct, but you could take the train or AST bus from Ragusa to Gela and Astra Autolinee from Gela to Piazza Armerina.

Trenitalia:

AST:

Astra Autolinee:

This is easy to do, as Vagabonda notes in her posting.

The connection is at Gela's train station, whether you arrive by train or by AST bus. Between Ragusa and Gela, I recommend choosing the option (train or bus) which gives you the best connection to the Astra bus to Piazza Armerina (giving yourself a "margin" of time in case of traffic delays).

I also recommend having a "backup" plan in case you miss your connection in Gela (particularly if you leave Ragusa in the afternoon, and you miss the last Astra bus to Piazza Armerina).

Finally, I recommend that you verify all schedules locally, and in particular the Astra bus schedules, since the web posting dates to 2004.

And (unfortunately) expect the Gela train station to be very unattractive…..

Unfortunately the Villa Romana del Casale is undergoing renovations - Very few rooms are open for viewing.

Is there any info on when more rooms of mosaics will be opened? Or a site that has more current information on hours, admission etc.

Yes, there’s the Villa Romana del Casale website, and there has been an update – I call frequently for updates as well and update this thread.

tripadvisor.com/…24469637

Open friday/saturday/sunday from 09 am to 04 pm

April and May open every day

There have been changes that aren’t always posted because the situation changes frequently.

There's still no indication of how many rooms will be open for viewing on the site - I late called on 1 February and there were only three rooms open for viewing.
