Visit to Sicily

Hi,

We shall be visiting Sicily for 4 days at the end of this month & staying in Piazza Armerina.

Would like to know what are the best places to visit from this area.

This is a new area for us, we've already been to Trapani & most of the surrounding area as well as Etna, Catania, Pozzallo areas but this is new to us.

We shall be driving a car.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks

Welcome to Sicily girbi!

Surely visit Piazza Armerinia's Villa Romana del Casale and even Morgantina, and the archaeological museum in Aidone.

And Caltagirone...

Then perhaps take a day trip to Agrigento's Valley of the Temples.

Vagabonda, what do you think of :

Castel Buono,

Piano Battaglia &

Gangi

Do you think they are worth the drive from Piazza Armerina?

The Madonie are a higher elevation, and it's low season, so not especially recommended in winter.

Have you seen Agrigento?

You would want to see the Valley of the Temples just outside Agrigento, and then Agrigento's historic centre.

The old center of Enna, an easy and short drive from Piazza Armerina, would be worth a look too.

I've never heard about such an area in Sicily...town? province?

Thought perhaps near a church?

Enna (and its castle) is a great suggestion!

Hi Vagabonda,

I have been reading your posts and am impressed with your knowledge of Sicily. I am a solo traveller and do not drive in any country that I travel to, which is not a problem for me because I take all forms of public transportation and I am planning a holiday to Sicily, commencing in Palermo and ending in Syracuse. My question as I love to hike, am I able to access a lot of places that are mentioned in forums without a car. I am not a professional hiker, but do love to go on long walking trails. Your advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to Sicily yuanator1!

Yes, you could take public transport to Monte Pellegrino near palermo, the Madonie, Lo Zingaro near Scopello, La Rocca in Cefalù...

Best wishes!
