whats in really like?

Thinking about going to Quarteria for 5 days in August. As ever with the internet, the more you look the bigger contradictions you get. Anybody with first hand knowledge. We are interested in what the nightlife is really like? We like a drink but are certainly not into clubs and the like.

I have also read some posts about crime being an issue but they are older posts, is there a problem?

What are the restaurants like? We enjoy going to a nice restaurant but also on some nights I enjoy a nice well cooked pub meal with a bit of sport on tv

Lots of questions I know but thanks for your time in advance

August is high season and a lot of Portuguese families will head down to Quarteira. It will be quite alive but I never experience it as overcrowded. Quarteira is a working town which accommodates very well for tourism. It has a 2 km long boulevard along which you find shops, restaurants, bars, terraces and coffee shops. There's a fish and fruit and veggie market at the end of the boulevard as well as some more shopping streets in that area.

You will have no trouble at all finding restaurants to your likings, for some nice dinner or pub meals. Have a look in the header of this page for "restaurants" reviews.

Nightlife is relaxed and there will be live music in various places, all quite gentle. At night you will find lots of families walking the boulevard with their children. Crime is as much as an issue as anywhere else in the world. Just take care of your belongings as usual.

Have a look at some Youtube videos and you'll get a feel of the place?

Enjoy your holidays!

Quarteira is a popular Portuguese beach and nive for families. There are a lot of restaurants and bars and is not a very expensive area. There are many aparments around and is very buzzy in summer time.

Next door is VILAMOURA, is more and less 20 minutes waking and there you will find excellent restaurants, shops and bars but much more expensive.

Just returned from algarve and we were burgled... Just look around the villas and you will see the security measures / alarms in place... Been going abroad for 33 years and never experienced this....

Post nr. 3: This has been posted on the Olhao, Alvor and Quarteira forum. And your recent reviews are from the UK. It's a bit confusing. Where have you been staying please?

sorry to hear you were burgled. Contrary to your experience the Algarve is generally a very safe place, I have lived here 24 years and consider it a very low crime area compared to UK and many other places. However crime is every where and holiday villas are a target. A lot of the year they are locked up and empty so hence the window bars etc and when tourists are renting they tend to be a little lax with security.

Quarteira is mainly a Portuguese holiday town although obviously other nationalities also holiday there but in lesser numbers. It is a little tatty round the edges but is a nice all round family resort. The beaches are brilliant.

It is very busy in August but it is only really a small resort - you could walk the full length in 20 minutes. There are many bars and restaurants to choose from. Vilamoura marina is close by with lots of busy, noisy late night pubs if you fancy a more active night out. Enjoy your stay.
