January in Norfolk: a Nice hotel and Sunday Brunch?

Hi there. We will be in Norfolk the first week in January. Given the fact the weather will be crummy, we'd like to splurge a little on the accommodations experience. Can anyone recommend a really nice hotel - proximity to the airport would be nice. Sunday Brunch recommendations would also be appreciated.

There are several hotels (Ramada, Hilton, Comfort etc) near the airport but in my opinion nothing to provide a meaningful experience. Downtown Norfolk is only 15-20 minutes from the airport, you can stay on the waterfront and enjoy river scenery and many nice restaurants. If interested, consider one of the Marriott's or Sheraton (check reviews). You could also stay at the Va Beach oceanfront (Hilton at 31st is nice, new, high rise and there are others), enjoy the scenery, boardwalk, and still be about 30 minutes from the airport. Sometimes our January weather is fairly decent, maybe you will get to enjoy some. Hope this helps.

If you stay in downtown Norfolk, you might try brunch at Omar's Carriage House, 456 Fish, or Freemason Abbey. If the weather is agreeable, you could also take the ferry across to Portsmouth and stroll through Old Town to Brutti's, Gosport Travern, or Montgomery Grill. All of these have websites if you want to check the menus.
