Porto Colom or Cala D'Or

Hi, went to Puerto Pollensa last october with husband and 2 children 6 & 9 and loved it.

Want to return to Majorca this october but tend not to go to same place twice. Have been looking around and came across Porto Colom which sounds lovely but wondering if too small/quiet and whether Cala D'or would be better?

We like traditional resorts built around fishing resorts which aren't too commercialised and have a flavour of the real spain with regards to food etc and maybe some boat trips however a few reviews of Porto Colom said there was nothing to do. Any advice would be welcome thanks.

Portocolom is amazing. Just check this page to see it: www.portocolom.com.

Portocolom is more relaxing than Cala D'or. Anyway both are very close from each other. Just 10 or 15 minutes by car so you can visit te other with no problem.

Enjoy

Absolutely nothing for your kids in Port of Soller to do,

You have to decide if you want to keep the kids happy or have your traditional Mallorcan holiday away from a tourist trap like Alcudia or Palma Mova.

We love puerto pollensa but like you wanted a change so went to cala d or. It is a family resort and far more commercialised than puerto pollensa with a less Spanish feel. Packed with German and British families in July and August when we visited. Not a Spanish person in sight! However our kids loved it and the beaches were great for them. They loved jumping off the rocks and the starfish boat trip so we had a very good holiday there. Porto petro is beautiful and would be my choice without the kids. Cala Figueroa is also a beautiful little place nearby. A visit to cala mandragora is a must too. You have to compromise a little sometimes and cala d or is a good choice when you have young children to think about too.

You've got me worried now about Port De Soller. Just about to book an apartment with pool there. I've fancied going for ages - like the look of the trams for a trip into Soller and then taking the wee train to Palma.

I'm hoping the kids will be quite happy with the pool, beach and hopefully there will be a play park for them. Not bothered about waterparks/amusements etc (purely selfish of me i know!).

It does look a lovely scenic place though. Should i or shouldn't i???

TrendeSoller from Soller to Palma and the tram between Soller and the port are the main visitor attractions of that area. And unique. It is scenic in PdS but no more so than many coastal towns away from the South West of Majorca. If you liked Pto Pollensa then apart from the attractions just mentioned your children might be disappointed by PdS. And the surrounding area, the mountain villages, the charm of Soller,Sa Calobra are more for adults than children.

I think the beaches in PP are nicer. But PdS is considerably smaller than PP and there is not the wide choice of apartments or restaurants.

Just my opinion fwiw.

I'm afraid if you like shopping, cafés, restaurants etc. then you will be rather limited in Porto Colom. It is a nice little place but rather limited in terms of what you are looking for. I would suggest you focus your search on Cala Dor instead, which is close to Porto Colom but has more of what you are looking for. However you may find that your budget may not be enough for a hotel for 2 weeks.
