Question

Why is it that you post a question regarding Trip Advisor do you get it removed 'according to inappropriate activity'? Questioning the policies within this site of which we voluntarily participate should not be removed to suit them, neither should they be allowed to control patrons activity! Are contributors not allowed to challenge unfair behaviour? Continue to remove these posts without fair debate & people will go elsewhere, more important platforms to air their views.

I agree Rache, although I can accept that TA don't want to air their dirty linen in public, and particularly not on their own site. Removal of the type of comment you're referring to is pretty common practice on other forums. They wouldn't want to let TA users have a field day on the TA site, slagging them off over 20 pages :).

But it would be so much better to answer (they're presumably allowed to post in threads on their own forum?), even if it's only to say that they're investigating and then close the thread. Just addressing the fact that a few people may have a grievance is only admitting that TA is run by humans, who sometimes err - that can't be a bad reflection on TA, surely?

3. Re: Question

I have had a couple of posts removed because I had a dig at our friends across the pond, re their attitudes to certain things. I cannot understand why they are so sensitive.

Quite true re those across the pond's attitude. Beware the Cuba forum if you comment on topics such as dolphins, tipping, taking fireworks on aircraft, donating gifts etc etc. Some 'righteous' Canadians believe that they know everything & that what they say is all that counts! This doesn't happen at all on this forum nor Greek Islands either.

Yes, Yes. Yes.

We have had an example in the last week of a subject that excited us only for it to be stopped in its tracks.

Thanks for your input, I wasn't intending to be contentious but felt it unfair that TA deemed it inappropriate because I was challenging their deletion. I realise we're all dealing with a filter system but it's us as reviewers that are being controlled in a contentious way. A few years ago I was active on this forum on a daily basis, this then led me to be appointed Destination Expert for Corralejo where I live. Had I been notified that following acceptance of this role I wouldn't be allowed to review the businesses in my hometown I'd never have taken on that role. I hope that my contributions on this forum have helped many visitors to the island whether it be 'where can I buy baby milk?' to 'is there a carnival on during my stay?' but sadly, due to the bureaucracy of this site I have stepped away from any involvement.

TA needs to be aware that if they deem to think something inappropriate, whether it's a comment made against them or not, their actions of deletion & sending down the rankings can cause great damage to someone's livelihood.

8. Re: Question

I suspect that the dunes post may have been removed by the lady who originally posted it. The poor lady probably never expected 81 replies which prompted a classic/naturist/textile debate. I just hope that she still visits Fuerteventura on holiday.

However, anyone looking at the posts would wonder what had started the debate.

I thought you were a destination expert, Rachel. I've never had problems reviewing Corralejo places - I certainly haven't stopped now I'm a DE here.

Sorry you feel that way. I don't at the moment so I'll see how things go. I have to say that in my professional life I'm involved with a site that used to be a great community but is now more concerned with euros, Google ranking and Adwords. Maybe it's a general sign of the times; or maybe new things always seem shiny and great until the polish wears off.
