Costa Brava in March

We're considering renting a villa for the first week of April next year probably in or near Begur or Pals.

Can anyone give me an idea of what the weather will be like then please? Will it be warm enough to swim?

Also as this would be the week before Easter would everything be closed up? We're looking for peace and quiet but not total silence!!

We haven't been to the Cost Brava before and are hoping to find somewhere quiet, with a strong Spanish identity, attractive and interesting towns and villages to visit and opportunities for some walks along the coast or inland.

Any tips and ideas greatly appreciated eg a more suitable part of the coast than Begur/Pals( we'll be flying to Barcelona and hiring a car.)

Even in June the water is cold and air temps in early April coolish so no, not good for adip unless you're a really hardy type. Tramontana wind from the Pyrenees can be a problem any time (incl.August this year!).

Costa Brava season is definitely high summer. English friends were in Pals mid-late August this year and said it was quietening down by the end. We've been once mid-June for a weekend and also pretty quiet.

Having said that, Holy Week is the only break for Spanish schoolkids between Epiphany and summer holidays so it's a popular week for people to go away but most people in Pals that week wd be second-home owners I wd think. However the good restaurants have local custom and are open all year round.

Pretty villages nearby to explore, nice walks and 3 golf courses in Pals area if that also appeals..Girona is a must and Besalu and Banyoles (further inland) also well worth a look.

Fen...I can assure you that Begur will be warmer in April than Newcastle, where I also live. We have a house in Cap de Begur and love the Spring for walking and golf, but it is very quiet! Weekends liven up, but there will only be locals around for most of the time. Lovely people, but not an awful lot of them. If, as your email suggests, you are hoping to swim, forget it and look elsewhere. If you want to visit a lovely part of the world, far removed from the normal touristic Spain, go for it.
