Its an internal flight there is no coach trip as its to far , they sell it as an excursion and you can either do it in one day flying up early morning and back late or have an over night stay
It is about 350 miles and flying is the only way.
One couple staying at the Melia did book a flight independently but don't know how.
Tour companies have excursions which when we booked were offering 1 day visit or overnight.
We booked the overnight including the show at a cost of approximately 600 Cuc for the 2 of us.
This included airport tax, tour, hotel, food and some drink.
Sadly we cannot comment on the tour as it was cancelled due to a plane crash, and up until the time we came home flights were restricted, but may be back to normal now.
We came home Nov 17th 2010.
hope this helps.
You can take the train, it takes about 9 hours. It is much cheaper than flying and you get to see the beautiful landscape. So long as you can put up with possible breakdowns, and not knowing exactly when you might arrive, then the train is the way to go.
Rent a car - it's a day drive... Not without adventures, but so is bus and train.
I have rented cars to go to Havana on numerous occasions.
Yes - adventurous!
But not nearly as dangerous or confusing as driving in Montreal.
I found driving in Havana much easier and people are much more ... curteous.
In either case, from Cayo Coco its a 5 hour drive approximately. Most of it is on an almost empty highway, so really no prob.
You can always find some co-pilots if youre not up to driving alone. Plus you can split the costs. AND its much cheaper than flying. AND you get to see the land and people!
There are flights available, through the agent or possibly even before you go. For something different last year we rented a 8 passenger van with a driver and took our Cuban friends along. It was a six hour drive from Cayo Coco, it is a beautiful country, but on the ride, the view is repetative, but very nice.
Guys...many many thanks for all your help!!!!
Im very prone to accidents...so I need to take it easy!
