i know this has been asked a millions times. are there flights from sju to culebra through an airline that are reasonable? we chartered once before but are not in a position to do that again. wasn't there an isla nena or vieques air that had daily scheduled flights to the island?

What is FLA? And do either of them fly from the international airport?

We paid $130 for two round trips. It was a special deal if you booked at the Seabourne and it was with Vieques

FLA is Flamenco Airlines. Both Flamenco Airlines and Vieques Air Link travel from the smaller airport at Isla Grande. Take a cab for $20 to Isla Grande from SJU (the international airport) and the airfare is $130 round trip per person. Call to find times available.

It's worth checking the flights from Isla Grande Airport. They are cheaper to either Culebra & Vieques, especially if there are a number of people in your party. We did that some years ago. We took a taxi to the airport and flew from there. The savings was substantial. The airport is about 20 minutes from SJU.

we are also planning to go from puerto rico to some of the islands, such as culebra, vieques, tortola, st thomas and st john. But we are thinking of taking a ferry to get from island to island. is that an option, andwould it make sense?

Thanks a lot!

Kind regards

Zuzan :-)

We just returned from a trip to Culebra, and although we had originally intended to take the ferry from Farajado, we were warned that due to maintenance problems many ferries to both Culebra and Vieques were delayed and or cancelled. We also were told of instances where only residents (and no tourists) were allowed to board specific sailings. We ended up flying from Ceiba (on Flamingo Air-$80 rtn) as we combined it with a trip to the El Yunque Rainforest.

So my advice is that if you plan to travel to Vieques or Culebra in the near future by ferry be prepared to have a flexible schedule. Also, note that there is no ferry between Culebra and Vieques and I'm not aware of any ferries to the US or British Virgin Islands from Puerto Rico, although there are ferries between the US Virgin Islands and the BVI that you could utilize.

Hello Cannuckk! We are heading to Culebra in April. We are spending 4 nights there, and then we wanted to head back to PR to see El Yunque for a day or two. Do you have any advice or recommendations on airlines, airports, lodging, hiking and food? We imagine ourselves flying from Culebra to PR and then making our way to El Yunque and staying the night there or in San Juan. Any ideas if this is feasible? Your guidance is truly appreciated! Peace~~~L

zuzan, your question has not been answered yet. There are no ferries from PR that go to all of the islands you mentioned. You can only get to Vieques and Culebra by ferry from PR.

The BVI are some 60 miles from PR, and no, it doesn't make sense to try to get to those islands on day trips from PR. Since you mention so many of the surrounding islands, why don't you consider staying on one or more of them?

The BVI are a short plane ride from SJU, or a ferry from STT. All of the BVI are connected by ferry service and you could see most of them that way. However, depending on your length of stay, each island has plenty of things to see and do, and I wouldn't try to get to a lot of islands during one trip, unless you are staying for several wks. If that is the case, my advice is to spend 3 to 5 days on several islands.

all the best, alashas http://www.youtube.com/user/honeymoon2
