Napa Valley Private Driver (Car Service) - HELP!

I'm traveling with my husband to Napa Valley for the first time and we need help figuring out who to use for car service (private car). We're staying in Calistoga and would like to reserve a driver for one day to take us around to the wineries of our choice. I'm thinking 6 to 8 hours of drive time...

Does anyone have any recommendations on which car service to use? I'm looking for cheapest, most reliable option. Does not need to be a fancy car.

Thanks much!

Danielle

Sifting through the 100's of choices on TA can be quite overwhelming and confusing! You can also check with these resources to help whittle it down. Be sure they are properly licensed and commercially insured.

Here's the short list of private wines guides from TA, start with the Top 15. Be sure to filter using the 'Sightseeing Tours' button:

Napa Bee Driven is recommended in the Frommers Guide and they drive your car- which saves you $$.

How does hat work hiring someone to drive your car if it's a rental car??

"How does hat work hiring someone to drive your car if it's a rental car??"

Excellent question!

From an insurance perspective, you would need to disclose to the car rental agency that someone other than the 'driver of record' on the contract will be driving the rental car. Ask your rental agency what surcharges are associated with this option.

If you don't and something bad happens, just imagine the chaos & risk when trying to resolve the insurance responsibility if a designated driver - and not the 'driver of record' - is behind the wheel in an accident situation.

Besides the insurance issue, a designated driver rarely provides the value-add services of a private tour guide who will customize an itinerary to fit your specific tastes and preferences for how you want to spend the day, make all the arrangements and appointments, and leverage their industry connections to maximize the value of your day in wine country.

In general, a designated driver service is nothing more than a taxi service, using your car, your gas and you assume all the insurance risk.

We were absolutely delighted with Beau Tours. Not cheap, but definitely worth every dollar. Had been to Napa several times before but driver offered new views and info, we could designate specific places we wanted to go, ability to pick up picnic lunch per our choice and previously made order. Bang for the buck was stellar!
