HI
Which would you choose, we are a family of 4 our children re 10 and 12. We like up to date, modern if this is possible and great pool for the kids. They are coming out at the same price and just cannot decide?!
We are currently booked at the Hyatt Regency in July - interested to see other's feedback. My children are 12 and 8
I can't say anything about the Hyatt but I've stayed at the Westin. Rooms were refurbished in 2013-14. Based at what I saw from the beach at The Hyatt, the pools win at the Westin for the kids. Hopefully someone who's stayed in both places chimes in.
Well, with kids in tow, I would take a look at all the great condo options available! Having a kitchen, washer/dryer and much more room to spread out makes for a much better family vacation. Have you checked out Honua Kai or the Westin Villas?
Thanks, I will take a look, Honua Kai is a little further and we won't have a car but I will check out Westin Villas.
Neither. Honua Kai is much better.
Please rent a car, I have no idea how you will enjoy Maui without one, public transportation is limited to buses that don't go where a visitor would want to go. You will not even save money without a car as taxis, tours and shuttles are expensive
Honua Kai is a modern condo development with resort-like facilities with many great pools for the kids. The condos are well decorated with excellent fixtures. Check on the units on VRBO and post back before renting as you will get good advice on the best choices - location, avoiding fees etc.
If you are flying from China, you will arrive in Honolulu. I recommend flying into Kapalua from Honolulu, not the main Maui airport as Kapalua is very close to all the west side locations - and if you are determined not to rent a car, this would make it more possible.
Hi,
I've stayed at both and would generally recommend the Westin but both are great. At the Westin the beach tower is much better than the ocean tower. Beach Tower has regular size rooms vs the smaller ones in the ocean tower. In the Beach Tower the oceanfront rooms are great as are the ocean rooms that face the pool area. The ones that face Whaler's Village have nice views but I've found they can pick up the smell from the restaurants below and the early morning delivery trucks. Pool at the Westin is great with 5 large pools and a great water slide. One weird thing is that they didn't have a hot tub for kids. Some weird answer about respiratory issues. They have a swirling tub in a cave but it is about pool temperature. The beach is great, restaurants OK and right next to Whaler's Village so the kids can run over and get fast food if they get sick of restaurants and pool food.
Hyatt is also good and has a Residence Club on site now if you do want a condo option. The pool is one huge pool. It has a cool waterslide but is dark, which freaked one of my kids out. Restaurants are better but is a longer walk to Whaler's Village. It is the furthest Hotel on main Kaanapali Beach from the Village, maybe a 7-10 min walk. They have some great grass areas but the times I was there the beach wasn't good and we had to walk down to the Marriott to really use the beach.
Really both are great but I would chose the Westin unless the hot tub is a big deal. Hopefully the Westin has changed that policy but I don't think so.
Thank you, I am looking at the condos at Hyatt but the price is high. I will mail the Westin and ask for the correct tower. Many thanks
Edited: 6 years agoI agree, Honua Kai or the KOR would be great.
