Ka'anapali Alii - Where to eat? Groceries? Trolley?

Staying at the Alii for nine days in July - wanted the space, but now wondering about meals as there is no onsite restaurant. What dining choices are available close by? Are the hotels such as the Westin and Hyatt within walking distance for meals? Does anyone know if there is a trolley service that runs through the Ka'anapali Beach Resort properties and if so, does it go all the way to the Alii? Also, where is the closest grocery store to pick-up supplies on the way in from the airport.

About 10 minutes to Whaler's Village shopping Mall with several restaurants. If you want the free shuttle, you probably have to catch it at the Whaler's Village-this will take you to all resorts in Kaanapali area-no sweat-enjoy.

Please start reading the Maui Forum ... now ... and daily. It will help you SO much.

You are literally spitting distance from Whaler's Village for restaurants and shops. There is an ABC Store there for some food basics, but to stock up - drive to Lahaina for Foodland, Safeway and Long's. And there are a ton of places to eat in Lahaina.

Again, there are SO many post about restaurants in the Ka'anapali (Lahaina, Napili) area!

You can easily walk from resort to resort on Ka'anapali - the strip between the Sheraton and the Hyatt. There is a beach walk and it is paved. I would not plan to eat at the resorts unle$$ you really, really want to. Expensive!

Aloha,

The trolley stops right by the Marriott/Hyatt. This would prob be the closest stop to you. It runs from around 9 AM to about 9 PM. It goes all over the entire K'pali Resort development-from Maui Kaanapali Villas (and Castaway's Cafe, good food) at the north end to the Hyatt at the south. It stops at the Royal Lahaina, up by the Fairways Shops (Cj's Deli, good spot), down to the Sheraton, Kaanapali Beach Hotel, Whaler's Village, then on to the Westin etc. It loops out to the golf course clubhouse and then does it all over again.

As you enter Lahaina, proceed through town (on the highway); when you see the Pizza Hut you're about a block from the Cannery Mall (Safeway, Long's) and the Lahaina Gateway Center (Foodland Farms).

Long's will be the cheapest for many items-including liquor, sunscreen, tourist items, and also snacks like chips, mac nuts, etc. Safeway can be very pricey--even when you sign up for their discount card (free, just ask for it).

Foodland Farms is my personal fav. You can also get a free discount card here. Very clean store, lots of good produce, and local fish and meats too.

<10 minutes to Whaler's>

Should read less than 5 minutes.

Yes they are walkable, but I am not impressed by the Westin restaurants, a bit more by the Hyatt, but even Japengo, good as it is, is overpriced.

The best place to get groceries I think is Safeway and your Safeway card from Canada should work to get the club prices.

Here are some of my fave places in West Maui on the "Cheap Eats" side:

Aloha Mixed Plate: (Lahaina) local food that is reasonable, nice location on the beach, good portions

Honokowai Okazuya Deli: (Honokawai Beach) great local and deli food.

CJ's Deli (Ka'napali): great for any meal, very reasonable

The Gazebo: Outrigger Napili Shores, great breakfasts, get there early or you wait.

Mama's Ribs & Rotisserie: Napili Plaza

Maui Tacos: Napili Plaza

Ba-Le Vietnamese Sandwiches: Lahaina Cannery Mall

Athens Greek: Lahaina Cannery Mall

Betty's Beach Cafe (Lahaina): great Happy Hour, fun location

Sunrise Cafe (Lahaina): Great for breakfast

Cheeseburger in Paradise (Lahaina): Upstairs is a great casual place to drink, eat and watch the sun go down.

Star Noodle (Lahaina)

Nagasako Okazuya (Lahaina)

On the higher end:

Any of the TS Restaurants (Duke's, Kimo's, Leilani's or Hula Grill) solid food, good locations and Hula Pie. Especially love them at lunch and Happy Hour

Merriman's (Kapalua): one of my two favorite high end places in West Maui.

Plantation House (Kapalua): my actual favorite West Maui restaurant. A very different perspective from being down on the ocean and very good food.

Roy's (Kahana): like Roy's every place, very good food and very good service, just no views.

Lahaina Grill (Lahaina): superb, fresh ingredients, well prepared.

We had a very nice lunch at the pool bar at The Sheraton resort. They have a nice variety of foods, I love the hot dog with Maui onions and Mango relish. Good selection of salads, sandwiches and desserts. In Lahaina, Aloha Mixed Plate is a nice place to sample some great local foods and they have an outdoor patio there with oceanviews,, it is very casual.

One of our best meals in the island was at Lahaina Grill, right off of Front Street. You can make reservations for this restaurant on opentable. And don't miss Ululani's Shave Ice, they also have a location by the airport, we went to both locaitons. We also loved our meals at Duke's at The Honua Kai Resort where we stayed. Another casual venue with veyr pretty ocean views. Great Mahi Mahi at Duke's and excellent tropical drinks. :)

Next door at the marriott is Longboards. Nice casual restaurant and ocean front. Early bird specials are 3 course meals for under $20.

Two doors north is Whalers Village with 3 major restaurants and a little food court.

The Kaanapali Alii has the best oceanfront BBQ area and the Marriott

has a little beachfront store with shish kabobs etc all ready for grilling.

Take the shuttle or do a 20 minute walk to Royal Lahaina to their oceanfront restaurant . Nice music and a little bit of entertainment. Great fish and chips and flatbread pizza etc.

Here are some restaurants near you. tripadvisor.com/GoListDetail-i24615-Maui_Hap… Ka'anapali restaurants are really close, Lahaina about a 10 min drive, most listed after Ka'anapali (except for last few), are also not that far. 10-20 min or so?
