Travel: OGG to Ka'anapali

My fiance and I will be arriving at Kahalui on December 15th for our honeymoon and need a way to get to our hotel on Ka'anapali Beach. What would be the best way to get there: taxi, shuttle, or bus? We've seen that taxis are pretty expensive and that, though they are cheap, we would have to change buses to get to our hotel, so is a shuttle from the airport to the hotel the best option? We don't really have the funds to rent a car for the week, so that's out. We're just looking for the cheapest, most hassle-free way to get there since we're coming from Missouri and will be pretty tired. Any help or opinions are appreciated. Thank you!

Aloha,

Welcome to the Hawaii forums.

Shuttles can be rather expensive. Here are a couple of links to shuttle companies:

Roberts would charge $30 each, I see. VIP - $26 pp.

Have you checked rental rates?

Congratulations.

I notice that they have gotten more competitive lately.

Hi Samantha, I just checked and found a car you could rent at 189/wk, it would be the economy class car at carrentalsavers.com/hawaii.

Check it out and see what you think, if you can swing it you will be glad to have a car on Maui. Like Jet said, they are competitive right now so if you reserve a car today and the price drops you will save even more.

Wishing you the best, what a great place to go for a honeymoon!

Kihei car rentals has some for $ 159.75 a week for an older car but if you have to pay 30$ per person each way that is $120 total so for an extra few bucks you have a car for the whole time ( plus gas of course) Something to thing about

PS Congrats and Happy Honeymoon :D

Welcome to TripAdvisor. Love your avatar!

Do everything you can to rent a car. And reserve it NOW. The cost of shuttles and taxis and tours will add up ... so you may as well rent a car instead. You don't want to be confined to your resort ... get out and explore this incredible Island.

Where are you staying do you have to pay for parking it adds up?

Shuttle is going to be your cheapest option if you don't rent a car using the bus is just not feasible. Just know not having a car will limit what you can get out and see.

You can't take luggage on the bus, so that's out. A shuttle may work best for you, but do consider renting a car for at least a few days.

A good way to economize is to rent the car for the last part of your trip, and return it to OGG. You can rent on the West side, and though you will pay a drop charge to drop it at OGG, it is often less than the cost of a shuttle for 2.
