Hoping for some help with a Maui transport question:
My parents, my wife, myself, and our 6 month daughter are flying to Maui for my sisters wedding. (5ppl)
My parents arrive a few days prior to us, at OCG, and we are all staying in Kaanapali.
We all leave 16 days later on the same flight, from OCG.
The issue we are having is sorting out airport transportation. We plan on renting a car, but we only need one car. Having a baby, we have quite a bit of luggage, and a car seat obviously. So our first thought was to rent an SUV for the entire time. However, the only time that we would all be in the car is driving to and from the airport. And since SUV's are quite a bit pricier, we are now thinking there might be another option.
Some things we are considering are:
-Shuttle from the airport when we arrive. Parents rent a cheap compact car for the duration of their stay, which we can also use as needed. Shutte back. Obviously with a baby, there would be some concerns with the Shuttle. Of the two or three shuttle companies, would you recommend one above others in terms of promptness? Cost seems like it would be about $70. Does this seem like a viable option?
-Parents rent a cheap car for the duration. We rent a intermediate car upon arrival at OCG (will that be enough to handle the 3 of us plus baby gear and 2 weeks of luggage?), return it in Lahaina or the other Maui airport the next day, and do the same thing on the way back. The one site I looked at showed about a $40 drop off fee, each time for different pickup./dropoff options. (Is that pretty standard?)
Any other thoughts or suggestions? It's a bit of an unconventional problem, largely driven by budget constraints and our mixed arrival times. Hoping you can help...sorry for the long message.
