Resort in Monterey or even Santa Cruz

Myself and my wife will be driving around Monterey/Santa Cruz the week after next, mid June.

We're looking for a nice hotel with pool close to the sea.

Something around $180 per night for 4 nights.

Can anyone recommend somewhere?

We have a car. We'll probably do some day trips, Big Sur, Santa Cruz, around Monterey peninsula but we'd like to sit by the pool and beach for a couple of days too as we'll have been on the road for a week or so beforehand.

In the Santa Cruz area.

The Dream Inn, a joie d'vivre hotel where every room has a patio or balcony facing the pool and the bay.

Seascape Resort, in Aptos.

However, your budget may be too low for the type of accommodations you want in the Monterey Bay area. Good luck.

Next week?!? You'll have to settle for what you availability you can find at this late date. And if any of those 4 nights are weekend nights, you'll probably have trouble finding an available room anywhere in SC or Monterey. The California coast is extremely popular and lodgings are few. We're now in the busy summer season. Lodging rates will reflect the high demand.

That being said, the only hotel right on the beach in Monterey is the Best Western Beach Resort Monterey. This isn't a classy hotel by any stretch. The rooms are a bit small and there are parking and resort fees on top of the price of the room. There is a restaurant on site that gets good reviews. The ocean facing rooms are best, if available. The non view rooms face the highway and you'll have highway noise compared to the sound of pounding surf from the ocean view side.

The Monterey Beach Resort is right on the beach and the pool there is small but nice. They also have a jacuzzi and a restaurant on-site. We have enjoyed several nice stays there. :)

The Spindrift Inn is also on the beach (if you dropped something from your window, it'd land on sand), but no pool and it's about $400/night during the summer. Whatever you choose, you should probably do it as soon as possible.

I think your expectations are unrealistic. As noted above, the only hotel on the Monterey Peninsula near the shore and with a pool is the Monterey Beach Resort. And in June finding a room at any resort property under $180 will be difficult. You may have to settle for a motel with a pool, or a hotel without a pool, and almost certainly not on the ocean.

You might consider the Monterey Bay Lodge just east of downtown Monterey. It's a motel with a pool just a block from the beach (but you have to cross a busy boulevard), and across the street from a pleasant lake. Prices are reasonable, and there's a restaurant on site.

Also, this may help give you a more realistic picture of your options www.montereypeninsula.info/guide/lodging.html
