Terrible Experience with Sandbridge Realty

Every summer we spend a week in Nag's Head with family and friends. We tried Sandbridge for a change of pace. We stayed at a house call 'Hawaiian Palace' that was booked thru Sandbridge Realty. While the description of the house was great in the brochure, the reality was much different. The house has 8 bedrooms, but you had to pass through some of the central ones to get to the end rooms. The window AC units were noisy, but you couldn't turn them off because the screens were either missing or torn. The 'complimentary Kona coffee' that was offered in the brochure was nowhere to be found. Sandbridge Realty was not responsive to our calls from day 1, and it took a trip to the office on day 5 to get any answers or results. Additionally, the beach replenishment project was underway, and we lost access to the beach for days 5 and 6. Sandbridge Realty claims to have sent out email to the tenants warning them of this possibility, but we never got it. I highly recommend that you stick to the Outerbanks. We have never had a bad experience there, and the three rental complanies that we have used there (Stan White being the most frequent) have always responded quickly to any of our concerns. If you do go to Sandbridge, I recommend you DO NOT use Sandbridge Realty. We found them to be unreliable and only concerned about getting their commission. Wherever possible, check out the property before making a committment, because what they print is not necessarity what you get. The only thing that made this trip salvageable was the good weather and the fun we had with our family and friends.

We stayed at the Hawaiian Palace the week before you did and agree with your post. We stayed when we did because the pool was still open. On our first nite we were so excited to be there and were in the pool when we looked up and saw a lady standing there. She said we couldn't use the pool. "It was closed". My dad told her it stated on the website and our contract that the pool was still open. We did not appreciate her telling us that and also being there!!! We had to call the office a couple of times to come and clean the pool out. The kitchen was definitly not prepared for many people to eat. Not enough dishes and cookware. We had a wonderful family vacation just being together, but we did not stay in a "PALACE". By the way, I was born in Conn. and now am a WV.

What was bad at Sandbridge? Maybe you mean the realtor? Yes, one's accommodations can really make or break a trip. But did you like the area itself? Which rental company did you use?

My family loves going to Sandbridge Beach every year. It's so peaceful. Not hectic like the resort area. And the Wildlife Refuge (and beach) at the far southend is beautiful... and very unspoiled.

I'm so sorry your vacation didn't turn out better. We've always used Siebert Realty (not Sandbridge Realty) to find a rental, as they have the best reputation (been in business since the 60s) as well as having the largest selection of properties at the beach.

You can find some great deals if you go to their website at www.siebert-realty.com Just look for the "Specials" icon.

Good Luck! :)

I wanted a nice place to stay for 5 months so I found out about Sandbridge Co. and took sme time online looking at properties onine. I felt that Bikini Tini was within my budget, so driving from Calif to VA to the home was an ordeal, but the horror had not begun. The home was filty, dusty, just in bad shape, after much complaing to Sandbridge they said they would someone out. Mind you we arrived one day after driving 3000 miles getting to a dirty home but, the next day I was awoken at 8am but having the rug cleaners knocking on my bedroom door, they did knock bother ringing the bell or whatever. I never had such a bad experience in my life. I fell down the stairs and the fix it guy just temp. patch it later on 4 more people fell down the stairs., includind a 81 lady. Sandbridge was non commital to these problems. If I did not stay in VA I would have sued their butts for injury, but I left quickly. bad horrible people anybody offer advice on this. i know you should look at property first but when 3000 miles away and only staying a few months. please help.

My goodness, Rabbit. What a trip! (In rereading this, did not mean that as a pun.) So you arrived and spent a lot of time complaining to Sandbridge that day and early the next morning someone came to clean but didn't ring the bell. Maybe they did but everyone in your group was fast asleep.

And then you fell down the stairs and then a fix-it man came (usually not immediately) and then four more people fell down those stairs later on and you complained again to Sandbridge....and yet you left quickly? Sounds like a longer ordeal than 'quickly'. Or was the agency unusual responsive and the people falling in quick succession?

So you drove 3000 miles and went back quickly? Wow. It's so beautiful there and so many nice houses you could have looked around at and switched to.

The waterfront location and pool do look beautiful. They seem to have filled lots of slots because there are only two months fully avaiable now till fall....just looking at the homeaway site.

There's been pros and cons about both the big agencies in Sandbridge here on TA. Just need to read between the lines of reviews and ask very particular questions about what the owners have asked the agency to take care of and how much will be taken off for those things not being done.

But you left quickly after 3000 miles, huh? Still can't get my mind around that.

to answer yur question yes, i thoght i try to find somehow to warn people of how alful sandbridge realty is, but you people offer no hope or solutions. if you could have seen how fity the home was. the carpet was in in bad shape, there was a large hole in the carpet in the center of the romm. half the windows opened, the half that did had no screens on them. i could go on but why bother. yes me and my party of 2 left virginia, never to return to the virginia beach area or as some of you call it the tidewater area.
