Marathon-Labor Day weekend

We (daughter and I) are planning to come for the marathon on Sep 5. Any suggestions on where to stay (cheap). Will just be doing the marathon and expo and that's about it.

(I just realized that a beach resort on the last weekend of summer is pretty expensive!)

Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you checked the marathon site's list of "official hotels"?

Some others that give comparatively good rates are the newly redone Holiday Inn Express at 19th , Cutty Sark, Capes at 20th, Fairfield Inn at 19th.

During special events like marathons, hotels don't slash their prices because they know people need to be there so they're going to pay. If you don't mind the drive, you can look outside the resort district and try your luck with hotels around Town Center: on Bonney Road there is Crowne Plaza, Extended Stay, Candlewood Suites, Days Inn, Econo Lodge; on Independence Blvd there is In Town Suites Extended Stay; on Euclid Rd is Motel 6; on Town Center Dr is Hilton Garden Inn.

A bit further away around Newtown Rd you'll find SpringHill Suites, La Quinta Inn, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Town Place Suites, Homewood Suites, Marriott Courtyard, Ramada Inn, and Red Roof Inn.

I don't know how much better the prices will be or if the commute will be problematic for you, but if you check them out and still have questions, please post again.

Right...they don't slash prices much even after Labor Day. VB is still going strong with events and nice weather.

There are some that are older or smaller and always less expensive Than a lot of the others (depending on what one means by 'cheap')..but they are still higher than many of those away from the resort area, such as the ones Wendy lists. Handy list.

A friend told me she just checked the resort ones and many are already booked or only take weekend reservations, not just one night. She saw Capes at $209 each night...but for three nights she thought (maybe two, but not one). Quality Inn allowed one night, the Sunday night was $219.

Let us know how you make out.
