Coming to Va Beach in June. Already have a hotel now I'm trying to make the trip as cost effective as possible. Any tips on saving money would be appreciated. I was wondering if there are cheap places to eat? What restuarants have deals or specials going on for dinner. Also deals on activities like mini golf. Discount tickets to Bucsh Gardens?

In the hotel lobbies and along " the strip" aka Atlantic Ave. there are coupon books for restaurants and mini golf. Planet Pizza is very good and the prices are pretty fair also.

Good Luck !

Thanks the books are helpful but they are mostly for touristy places that are expensive to begin with. I was just wondering if there are places not so advertised that might be a good deal.

One idea...

We have found a good cost savings is to eat one meal out a day, if that...and not including dinner. But that's if one has a refrigerator and microwave in the room/suite.

So it's pretty good prices at Pocahantas, Doc Taylor's or Sea Salt Cafe for breakfast all day or lunch...check the times...usually really till 1 or 3 or 4. Whoever misses breakfast out can have it; whoever is up for lunch can enjoy that.

Breakfast in to start the day can be cereal, fruit, toast (toaster?), etc. ...if you're oceanfront, watching the city and lifeguards and bicycle rentals and chair/umbrella rentals set up on your beach and munching on the balcony.

Dinner is also then not the rush of showers and clash of personalities getting ready for the evening out. Rather, sandwiches and sides, fruit, whatever, while some shower, some perfect their hair, some iron, but everyone is close and in contact amoeba-like and talking about what to do that evening and then heading out refreshed.

We do exactly what explorer does -- we'll eat our big meal in the middle of the day when we can get the nicer entrees at lunch prices, and then have sandwiches or several appetizers for dinner. We save money that way, but actually we feel better too.

Sometimes businesses have coupons online. For example, right now there's a $1 coupon for Jungle Golf good before 6 p.m.

I just bought an "Entertainment 2010" coupon book on Ebay for $15. It's loaded with BOGO free deals, or get $8 off your total check, etc. for local restaurants and also the chains. (It's the Hampton Roads area book). It also has coupons for activities at the beach, such as one free 18 hole mini golf when one is purchased, 25% off admission at Ocean Breeze Waterpark, etc. Heck, three meals and your book is paid for, plus you can use it at home for airlines, hotels, and stores like Aeropostale.

You may also want to try Restaurant.com Use the promo code SAVOR (good thru May 23) and you can get $25 gift certificates for $3 (or $10 GC for $1.20). I have not had any problems using these at any of the participating restaurants.
