Motorcycle trips and kayaking?

We will be staying in VA Beach the week of Sept 4 for 8 days. We will have our motorcycles and would like to plan some cool rides. We also want to visit boneshakers,, is it still open? We dont spend alot of time at the beach so we need some things to do away from the beach taht wont take us broke.. Any ideas? thanks. Is a ride to the outerbanks doable? I am not sure how far it is. We also love visiting little towns..

Here are a few nice rides to consider..................

Rt17 South/Dominion Blvd, catch it at I64, follow Rt17S signs, nice scenery, lots of alternate roads off Rt17 in rural areas, look on map of area for Ballahack Rd, West Rd, Butts Station (you know it's rural when a road has Butt in it's name), Fentress Airfield, Land of Promise Rd, stop at Dismal Swamp Canal Trail (walk, cycling) see review tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g57597-r2440…

Also at same I64 intersection for Rt17 is nice ride to NC Outer Banks (OBX), just follow Nags Head signs instead of Rt17, about 3 hours to Hatteras, walk up Lighthouse about $7, nice photo opportunity

Colonial Parkway off I64 runs between Yorktown, Williamsburg and Jamestown, nice scenery, aggregate surface on Parkway can be a bit bumpy but scenery along York River worth it. While enjoying the ride, take it towns (and attractions) mentioned, each unique, check forums for additional information and status because part was recently closed due to repair. In Williamsburg area is York River State Park, rent a canoe/kayak and explore.

Take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel 26 miles to VA Eastern Shore, $12 toll but return within same day for price break, unique experience, stop at fishing pier and restaurant on bridge, lots of small towns, check website or call before going in case of restrictions usually due to wind......... http://www.cbbt.com/

If you have time, ride to Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive is great on a bike, curvey, 35 mph, nice scenery, plenty of overlooks, catch it near Charlottesville (3+ hr from VAB) or Front Royal (3 1/2+ hrs from VAB) also FR has canoe river tours.

September is usually nice riding weather but be prepared, it's also hurricane season and not odd to be cool, windy or rainy.

Hope this helps.

Happy trails
