Things to do first weekend in October

My husband and I are thinking of taking a quick weekend getaway the first weekend of Oct. Will VB be totally shut down and will we be bored to tears? What will there be to do? Also, how far is VB from Busch Gardens? Thanks.

No, it's not completely shut down at all. You can even still top off your summer tan on nice days sitting on the sand or walking the boardwalk.

Check this out for several ideas...it's someone asking about Nov. but you can translate most of them to yourself as well:


Additionally, in Oct. there's still the tram ride through Back Bay National Wildlife Preserve (9000 acres of natural habitat) on weekends. But call for times.


There are kayakng dolphin morning tours (ah...the misplaced adjective...the dolphins are, needless to say, not the one kayaking) and sunset "paddles" at First Landing:


The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center does dolphin watching tours through october.

The Rudee Explorer explores the salt marsh through mid-Oct.
