New Years Eve - To Do for this 40+ couple

My hubby and I are going to VA Beach for new years which is also our anniversary. We are looking for fun stuff to do after having an scrumptious dinner.

Although we like to dance, we don't want to appear to be hanging out with our kids (20 somwthing) crowd. So our question is, besides retiring early, what are the 40 somethings doing to bring in the New Year?

Are their fireworks somewhere with an outdoor/indoor concert?

No tip is a stupid tip so please Tip On!!!

The closest fireworks appear to be in Williamsburg (Zable Stadium, at the College of William and Mary) as part of the First Night Celebration (firstnightwilliamsburg.org). Purchase of a button entitles you to enjoy entertainment located throughout the Colonial area. Plus, you get access to a shuttle that will transport you from one venue to the next. Even though it can get a little cold (dress in layers!), it's still lots of fun. What's great is that you don't have to compromise if you have different musical tastes. We've been able to sample everything from Big Band to Classical to Klezmer to Folk to Celtic to Country to Rock (whew!) over the years. (Btw, if you do go, take a flashlight as some of the walkways may not be completely illuminated).

Should you want to stay in Virginia Beach, you'll find Holiday lights along the boardwalk at the Oceanfront (until 11:00 pm). Tickets are $15 per car on New Year's Eve.

You can also drive through a half million lights at Newport News Park (until 10:00 pm), which is about 10-15 minutes east of the First Night t'do (since it starts at 5:30, you can do both). Tickets are $10 per car.

Happy New Year! :-)

There is an excellent band playing at a favorite local hangout called South Beach Grill. The cover charge is $40 / couple. The average age is around 50 so you don't have to worry about being around 20 somethings. There are also plenty of bands at restaurants with no cover charge. You can see a complete list of all events on New Year's Eve at http://www.VBnightlife.com. Where are you going to dinner? Perhaps i could recommend something close to where you are dining or staying?

Enjoy!

Can you recommend a great restaurant with a great band and no cover? We not fussy food eaters.

Thanks for the recommendations. I do appreciate them.
