Is it possible to fill 10 days?

Thinking of going to dc for a couple of days then want to tag on 10 days of chilling out with the 7 and 3 year old. Would like to keep everyone happy, this would involve theme/ water park for 7 year old, beach for 3 year old, outlet shopping for me and the best seafood restaurants for Hubbie . Will hire a car in Washington and the rest is very forum dependant!! Thanks for your help!

I would certainly think so. 3 days in DC, 3 days in Williamsburg (outlet shopping, Busch Gardens, Water Country), 3 days in Virginia Beach. Add the other day wherever.

I agree with Wendymath. Besides a day or two in Williamsburg (easy to spend more time if you like all the performances and go into all the houses/ exhibits), Busch Gardens (my family could easily spend 2 days there though that depends on your love of the rides and how bad the crowds are), Water Country and the beach itself, you are 40 minutes or so from Hampton if you like Military History- and the Virginia Air and Space Museum is there. You're also not too far from the Back Bay Wildlife refuge if your family likes that sort of thing. They have hiking trails and such and do educational programs that are listed on their site I believe.

And if by Williamsburg you mean you are also considering Jamestown and Yorktown...you'll need to add on a few days:)

You could easily fill 10 days...

Williamsburg

Jamestown, Historic Williamsburg area, Busch Gardens, Water Country, Outlet Mall

Va Beach

Relaxing on the beach, shops, excellent restaurants, aquarium, medium size water park and go carts, mini golf, other beach activities...

Personally I could "kill" 10 days at Va Beach easily ... And do so often :)

I am here right now and the answer is definitely! Do go to First Landing State Park ($4.00 dollars on weekdays/$5 on weekend for the whole family) which is very close by (15minutes). Very nice trails and bay front area. Recommend Bubba's seafood for lunch or take your own picnic. Also there is the Virginia Beach Aquarium that the kids might enjoy. On the boardwalk rent bikes and visit the pier! - T

When might you be visiting? Make sure you check ahead for attraction schedules. Busch Gardens is open for much of the year (limited to weekends on the shoulder months), but is closed January and February, while Water Country's full season is from 25 May to 1 September (plus 19 and 20 May) in 2012.

Plus, there are a number of family-friendly festivals throughout the year, with everything from pirates to art to music to history. For example, the first Saturday in May brings the Children's Festival of Friends at Newport News Park and the Virginia Arts Festival (various locations throughout the area) is going on now through May.

But wait, there's more! ;-)

Portsmouth has a super-duper, newly expanded Children's Museum. And Newport News offers the Virginia Living Museum (featuring The Really Big Dinosaur Puppet Show at the end of May until the last week in June), with the SPCA Petting Zoo right across the street. And Hampton's Virginia Air and Space Museum and Virginia Beach's Virginia Aquarium (they've got wildlife boat excursions) are great places to visit.

(And there's still more!...but my typing fingers are screaming for mercy...)

Bottom line: I don't think you'll have any problem filling those ten days :-)

Oh, I forgot about the outlet shopping!

Premium Outlets (Williamsburg):

www.premiumoutlets.com/williamsburg/

Williamsburg Pottery:

Williamsburg Outlet Mall:

Those are the larger outlet centers, but there's a lot of outlet shopping for several miles along Route 60 in Williamsburg. They can have your credit card maxed out in no time at all ;-)

Thanks guys, that's very helpful, we are from uk and comig july/august and we have done florida, new York, Boston, dc (which I want to go back) so wanted somewhere different. Will fly in and out of dc, probably 2 weeks total. Sounds like there's plenty to do! I love wandering around little streets with a bit of history, fell in love with Georgetown and Alexandria so more like that would be great,

I'm no snob but was wondering what beaches were like, want to keep kids happy but don't do tacky.

Thanks for your help, getting a bit excited now!

If you want a beach that isn't tacky, head just south of Virginia Beach to an area called Sandbridge. It is less developed and has fewer crowds, so might be a better fit for your family.

Alternatively, Chincoteague/Assateague is a wonderful beach area that is great for nature-lovers.
