Trip w/ 1-year old booked for June

Hi All,

First time going to VB for vacation. We'll be staying at the Marriott Courtyard North (37th Street) from 6/5 to 6/13. We are a little concerned that we had trouble booking a stay with a check-in date anytime between 6/6 and 6/13. Is there something big happening that weekend? We still have time to chance our plans, which is why I'm asking. We're really looking for a place that's a little more quiet, but still close enough to walk to shops, etc.

It looks like average high during early June will be ~high 70's/low 80's and the water will be around the low 70's. Is this about right?

Any thoughts on bringing our 1-year old son? We'll probably spend the majority of our time at the indoor/outdoor pool or the beach, but any other must-do's for toddlers?

Thanks in advance!

Oh it's Sand Soccer Tournament time but also a Native American festival one day during the week. But you got in, right?

The only "must" for that baby is plenty of sun screen, a hat, a bucket and shovel, and shoes to protect against that hot sand. There is a play ground on the beach at 31st St, and there are some beach-themed sculptures to play on at various exits along the boardwalk (things like beach balls, fish to climb on).

Thanks for the input. We did get in, but what should we expect during Sand Soccer? Is it going to be a mad house? We'll be on 37th so not sure if this is away from the action or not? With a 1 year old the last thing we want is a hotel or beach that's overrun with kids and parties.

You can expect that there will be some teams and families at your hotel, but it looks like the events will stretch only to 35th St. I won't kid you -- the Sand Soccer tournament is a BIG DEAL. But it's also very festive for everyone. There will be food vendors and retail merchants and other forms of entertainment that you might actually enjoy. Let's hope it's a GOOD surprise.
