Living on the Northern Neck

Dear Readers,

We are considering purchasing a home in White Stone and would like to hear from any locals concerning life on the Northern Neck. Initially the home will be a summer home, but we intend to make it our primary residence within a few years. We have one college age child and are both working professionals. My husband loves to fish and I love equestrian activities - so the area seems ideal. Is the area friendly to new comers? Do you get much snow - we currently live in the sunbelt.

thank you!

Hucky

You probably know already that Kilmarnock has a hospital, and a new Wal-Mart. There is also a famous well-known resort called the "Tides Inn." Quite a few D.C. area people do retire to that area, but the population has not grown all that much.

You will get occasional snow - but in general, the winters in coastal eastern Virginia are generally considerably milder than in the mountains. (As an example, just in the short distance between D.C. and Dulles Airport to the west, Dulles averages 6 to 7 degrees cooler than D.C. does the year-round).
