Guided kayak tours?

Looks like rentals are available through York River State Park but can anyone suggest any companies that provide guided tours?

Thank you!

I sure don't - we kayak often, to be honest I think you can do it without a guide if you want.

You can also rent at Chieckahominy Riverfront park - in James City County on Rt 5 immediately before the bridge into Charles City County.

we like to go up College Creek, around the parkway and jamestown island, the marina - quite peaceful and beautiful.

YRSP does have some guided tours - the night rides are especially nice - pleanty of mosquito repellent!!

The website, …virginia.gov/state_parks/… says that "guided canoe and kayak trips begin at the visitors center". York River is a nice park with scenic trails in a lovely setting on the river. For more detailed information, check out the website or call the park. Happy trails.

Great- looks like we'll be able to venture out on our own without a guide. Thank you!

Keep in mind that our creeks are tidal so you should check on tide changes before venturing out.

I just thought I'd ask another question on this thread. Besides the issue of tides, what is the paddling like on the York River? We never brought our kayaks because we thought there would be a lot of big boat traffic...are there quiet places with just kayaks? Are water trail maps available? Thanks!

To aster143,

There are many waterways off the York River that are great for kayaking. Go to www.mpra.org/Projects/RiverMaps/rivermaps/htm for river maps, look at map 7 page 1 & 2 for the area at York River State Park, but nearby areas are interesting too so check out the other maps. Taskinas Creek is at the York river SP and where one of the ranger guided canoe/kayak trips takes place. Hope this helps. Happy trails.
