One Day Visit

Good morning everyone!

My husband & I are going to be visitng some family in the Richmond area the first week of August, and we are looking to spend a day in Williamsburg. What would you recommend doing for a day trip? We are both into the history of the area, so museums and tours would be our best bet. A recommendation for a lunch restaurant would be helpful, too!

Thank you so much!!

Tara

Sorry, one more thing! Is there a good central location to park for the day so we could just walk to where we want to go, or is everything pretty spread out? Thanks again!

Either a day at Colonial Williamsburg, or at the Jamestown sites would be interesting. If you want to visit Colonial Williamsburg, all-day parking is available for $1/hour, $8 maximum, at the parking garage; entrance is off Henry Street. For lunch, the King's Arms Tavern in the historic area is nice for a sit-down tavern experience. Aroma's in Merchants Square is a good lunch place too. Revolutionary City is from 10:30 - 12:30 daily; visit www.history.org for more information about CW and daily events there. Feel free to ask more questions!

Park at the Visitors Center, there is no charge and you are in good walking distance to CW, or take the shuttle bus. A full day's admission is $43 and includes tours through all the exhbition buildings and museums, even though you cannot see them all in only one day. The Kings Arms and Shields Taverns serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. without reservations, first come first serve.

If you go to CW for the day get the one day recommended sites to visit sheet at the visitor center. It will highlight the important places not to miss in CW if you are only there for 1 day. I would also recommend studying the sites of CW beforehand and see what places you'd be interested in seeing. We especially enjoyed seeing the crafts and trade demos: wig making, wagon wheel maker, book binder, basket maker, blacksmith, brick layer, etc. As you visit a place check it off so you won't over lap your places. Also if you CW has two museums that are open until 7 pm so you can visit these after the rest of the place closes at 5PM. The museums have some interesting exhibits.
