Just the two of us...where is a nice place to stay for...

We're heading to Colonial Williamsburg for a couple of days in September. Now that we have raised the "kiddies" we are looking for a place that is geared more to couples without the screaming kiddies running up & down the halls in the middle of the night. Any suggestions for lodging? We are looking to stay nearby the historic area of Colonial Williamsbur. Also, any nice restaurants for a special evening meal?

You should check out some of the Bed and Breakfasts in Williamsburg. There are some beautiful ones here and I am sure some of them probably don't take children so you won't have that running down the hall syndrome that we all know about.

Look on this site, I believe there are some pretty ones. Just make sure they don't take children.

The best place in town for dinner is the Fat Canary right in the Historic area or you can try the Whitehall restaurant.. They are both awesome.

You are coming at a great time, as most of the kids are not here. They are all in school.

Have a great time.

I am not sure if there are kids or not but you should check out the Williamsburg Inn. They also have golf.

Why not stay in Colonial Williamsburg itself? I've stayed in the colonial housing which is part of Colonial Williamsburg. The "houses" are mixed in among the shops and taverns. I also recommend having dinner at one of the taverns like Christiana Campbell's. In the evenings, its like going back in time.

Have you considered one of the colonial homes...the Peter Hay house is great for a couple as is the Orlando Jones Kitchen. You would be staying near the Duke of Gloucester Street. Each of these is two stories. Market Square Tavern or Brick House Tavern are also good.

If you are looking for a nice first floor, try Nicholas Tyler Laundry across from Market Square, Robert Carter Kitchen near the Palace, or David Morton House near Campbell's tavern.

King's Arms is great for a special dinner for the two of you. The service has alwys been great plus the staff has entertaining stories for you duirng your dinner.

We have found Fairfield @ Kingsgate Resort, to be affordable, and romantic. Although there have been children on the premises, we never heard them. The resort offers, a jetted tub in the master bedroom, two bedrooms, full size kitchen, that comes fully equipped with everything. They have tennis courts, indoor pool, outdoor pool, mini golf, hot tub, pool tables, table tennis etc. Located right in Williamsburg, and close by to all the attractions.

While you are in colonial Williamsburg, eat at George Washington's favorite tavern, Christina Campbell's Tavern. The service is wonderful, the food was great and overall just a wonderful experience. It is like stepping back in time, except for the prices of course. Try a mint julep.
